Fully reflective vinyl bike wrap

Don't know if any of you posted this but it is a cool idea. I think you could probably go to a signmaker and buy a yard of the stuff because it is only available to purchase in rolls. It comes in several colors but I think for a bike basic black would work best. I think I will wrap my husband's bike- he's the night commuter in this family, and his commuter is not a "pretty" bike.

An average bike will take at most 6' x 15 to fully wrap. It can be hard to find a sign shop willing to sell that little. We got our vinyl from Beacon Graphics in New Jersey (http://www.beacongraphics.com). They were so excited about what we were doing with it, they agreed to sell smaller, DIY quantities of the material. Very clever idea. I've been dreaming, though, about painting a roadbike a lemon or caution yellow with illuminite/reflective stuff in it too. That'd be AWESOME to be that visible on the road, even better for it to be a design from the bike factory. Even if it is slightly obnoxious. In a nifty sort of way though.

Cool idea, and an added bonus of covering up the brand name could deter thieves.

I hate to be the spoilsport but I'm sure it just looks fugly by daylight.

Why can't they make commuter bikes that are painted reflective? how about that for a new market niche.

But who'd want to use a Huffy as a commuter? Cover the Felt...enjoy your ride, and prying eyes don't see what you've got.

I have a neighbor who has his bike (don't recall what it is, but it's a nice frame) covered with black electrical tape! :eek: It is to protect the frame from nicks and dings (but not, I guess, tape goo :rolleyes:) and also to hide the frame from coveting eyes. But...my big problem with that: if thieves know folks cover up "nice" bikes with junk, then chances are...if you steal a stickered, taped, re-painted bike, you'll be getting a nice(r) frame. So, there goes that measure out the window.

That said....while I see the value of a fully reflective bike, I think it's a bit overkill. I'd love it if manufacturers made their labels of reflective tape, and the various pin-striping and other decorative decals. I'm not sure if a clear coat over them would nix the reflectivity, but that'd be my preference if anyone cared to hear it!

I fully agree that reflective graphics (and reflective rims) should be standard. Great idea.
