Christmas Rides

I started before sunrise so I could see all the holiday lights. All was calm and the stars were peeking out between the clouds.

For a change, it was mild (53 degrees) but the wind was strong, bringing in a cold front. The headwind was a challenge, but as we know, the tailwind was wonderful. All the time I've been spending with Coach Troy lately has paid off, particularly my high cadence work. Well, the wind will dry all the damp patches, so when I ride tomorrow, there should be no worries about black ice. I'm going to get my gorgeous Orbit ready to ride tomorrow. ;-)

I hope Santa brings us an early spring.

Merry Christmas - so jealous, here in Michigan its 20 degrees, rained yesterday on top of our 15" of snow. Come on SPRINGGGGGGGGGGGG

Woke up to 8F degrees and an inch of ice on everything, no rides today. Everyone who can ride, have a great one!!

We had a wind advisory until 10am, and I don't ride if there's one of those. So, at 10:15 I headed out! Boy, that was a blast (literally)! Like, a sandblast in my face. Stupid me forgot to wear my Eagle Eyes goggles, too, so it was especially painful (but since I haven't ridden for 5 days because of ice, I'll take it!).

20-30mph winds, with 45mph gusts. It wasn't the windiest day I've been on a bike, but it ranks in the top 3. Really, really fun! I love the wind. It was from the west which is the best direction around here. The gusts were the strongest I've ever felt, though. For a split second I considered turning around when it got a little dicey.

My friends were out riding, too, but I was wiped out by the point where I was supposed to turn to meet them, so I just headed home. They went by the beach. I bet they got some sand in the face!

Didn't manage to meet up with redrhodie today, but DH and I did 33.34 miles on our cx bikes. It was great to get out there again after 5 days off due to snow and ice. Had some aches and muscle kinks to work through, but felt more or less normal after the first 10 miles. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Had to do hill repeats -- ended up with about 35 miles, got in 4 x 15-minute intervals, plus got to look at pretty houses. The roads were so quiet, and everyone I passed walking were so happy.

It was nice.

Sun and 42 degrees were a nice change today. Encountered more mud and muck than I usually do in the city, but maybe my bike enjoyed something other than standard urban grime. It was a great start for Christmas day.

It was cold and windy and a bit rainy, but I managed to get in 30 miles. :)

Too much snow and blow out there for me.

Since we started cycling (about 5 years ago - only mountain bikes for the first year) we have tried to all (sevn of us, we have 5 children) do a ride together on Christmas Day.

This year only 5 of us went as my daughter hasn't ridden for a year - she has taken up running - and my youngest (13) doesn't want to ride a road bike at the moment.

So myself, my partner and our three eldest sons went for an 11km ride together, then my eldest went home and the others went over some hills while I rode back and forth over a 3km false flat and waited for them. Soppy as it sounds, I just wanted to finish the ride with my partner (I've been with him more than half my life and I just didn't want to go home without him).

So eldest got 11km, partner and other 2 sons got 45km, and I got 35km.

Then we went home and ate chocolate - a supreme indulgence for my partner and I.


EDIT: Pssst... I forgot to mention it was about 30'C (I think thats over 80'F)... beautiful, balmy... no sign of snow... ahhhh - Summer in the Antipodes >;p

It was one of the pretty and sunny days we had all week. I got home from my parents and took Niki for a spin in the neighborhood. We went by the new horsies on the block.
