Ever had this!?

I ordered a set of commuter tires from BikeTiresDirect.

I just checked package progress and for yesterday it has:

HODGKINS,
IL, US 12/18/2008 11:59 P.M. TRAIN DERAILMENT

Fortunately they left Hodgkins this morning.

I ordered Christmas gifts online from LLBean to be shipped to my sister. When sis said the package hadn't arrived, I checked the tracking and it indicated 'Delay Beyond Our Control'.:cool: when it arrived in Billings. It then took two more days to get to my sis 50 miles away...

At least on mine they told me what happened. & it doesn't really look like they are going to be delayed that much.

Train derailments happen all the time outside of Chicago. Fortunately for you, it sounds like this one cleared up quickly. In work in the Supply Chain Mgt field and have had material stuck on a derailment for over a week.

I once ordered a pair of ski goggles for my boyfriend and when it reached Missisauga, Ontario, it was "in transit" for about 2 weeks. Turns out they were "lost" and we only got $100 (the goggles were $150) for lost claim. "Lost" = "ooh, Oakley goggles, I want them!/stuffs package in pocket"

We once shipped about $250,000 worth of heavy equipment to India by ocean freight. They called it "short landed," in other words, the ship sank. Thank god for irrevocable letters of credit payable on presentation of shipping documents! :)

I ship for my customers all the time. Once a box was opened by an unnamed shipping company employee who helped themself to a customized backpack. The box was then resealed and sent empty to my customer. Yes, they paid on the claim.

Wowwwwww, what a great term to totally obscure the meaning. I can't say that I've ever been involved in a shipwreck and I'm absolutely sure I would haven never thought of "irrevocable letters of credit..." It appears you are a very clever person to know.
