Has anyone ever heard of Gruppo shifters? Someone mentioned them to me a week ago and said he loved them. I tried looking up "Gruppo" to find their web page but couldn't find anything about them?!

Usually when someone refers to a gruppo they are talking about a collection of components that includes shifters, derailleurs, brakes, bottom bracket and cranks, ie a 105 gruppo (or group set). I haven't ever heard it also being a brand name.
Since "gruppo" is Italian (I think), I've heard it usually in connection with Campy, which is short for Campagnolo (an Italian maker of very nice components).
yes, the gruppo I have is Record. They are wonderful and light (and the new ones ridiculously expensive) Other gruppo's like Centaur and then next is Veloce, are good too, but weigh more (we're talking about grams here) hope that helps.
Gruppo can refer to any set of components (shifters, brakes, etc.) of a certain brand and model of that brand.

And if you want to be very elitist, it should only be used for campy, the other groupsets not being italian....
