Vittoria Randonneur tire
Anyone have the Vittoria Randonneur tire? What's your flat frequency??
After 3 flats in one week due to (1) goathead (2) nail that I didn't see and (3) glass that I didn't see because it was dark AND a now-sliced tire from flat 3, I am in the market for some new 32c tires for the Bob Jackson. I was thinking about getting some 'cross tires since I plan (note that I say "plan") to ride as much as I can this winter. But the Vittoria Randonneur tire is billed as a tougher-than-average tire as far as flat resistance goes. It has reflective sidewalls, too, which is a feature that I like.
But I wonder if for winter I'd be better off with a 'cross tire (that is, better off with a little more beef)?
(BTW, 2 of the flats were with Slime tubes. I'm done with Slime tubes.)

I was going to get a pair of those Randonneurs but now I'm not so tempted.
My other idea is a pair of Schwalbe Marathon...

Oh, I reread my original post and see that I was not clear...
I'm thinking about getting the Vittoria Randonneur, but I'm also thinking about a cyclocross tire. I have some old old "cross" tires on there now, but they are not cyclocross tires like one sees today.
I did pick up a set of Panaracer Crosstowns today, very similar to the Vittoria. I'm not going to mount them just yet; I'll probably hit a different LBS tomorrow to see what they have.
So if you have experience with the Vittoria or the Panaracer, let's hear it!

We have Vittoria Randonneur's on DH's flat bar road bike (well, not now...now it has Ritchey 'cross tires on it in preparation for a rail trail ride I'm doing with the bike). We've had the Vittoria's now since the bike was new...2004. Granted, the bike doesn't see a whole lot of action, but (knocking furiously on wood here), we've never gotten one flat on the bike. (Hoo, boy. I just jinxed myself now!). After my ride with the 'cross tires, we'll put the Randonneurs back on for the winter of road riding.
So...no problems with them. Like them fine.

I don't know if this is much help, but I just put the Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX tires on my bike. My dh has had them on his for a while and really likes them. He, too, was looking for something that would give him less flats, only he still wanted performance. When I needed new tires, he told me to get the same thing he had. I'm not sure how different this tire is from the Randonneur, but them are my two cents! ;)
