Maybe this should go in the touring folder....
So, when was this and where did you find it?
He must have had a heck of a time rounding corners. Neat idea though.
I'm gonna guess that he was single.
That was adorable - and very very cool :)
He did 1200 miles over 14 days with that bike and that trailer? I want to see his legs!
I got it from the Element Owners Club forum, and someone there posted it from the Tear Drop Trailers forum. :)
I'm thinking mid-1950s.

That's neat! What an interesting story.
I just love the photo overall.
Is that a single speed bike? I don't see any shifters or hand brakes .
Definitely looks single speed, probably with coaster brakes.
I showed it to DH and he went bananas over it. He has been stoked ever since he pulled our bike trailer last week with his hybrid - I guess he will be trying to “invent” a new and improved trailer after seeing your post! But only if he comes up with a sleeper for two! Great pic and a great story about an epic adventure!
And all I'm thinking is "claustrophobia!!":D

According to this, it's from October of 1940

This would be lighter and a little less terrifying to sleep in

So I followed the link to Tony's Trailers and I ran across this charming gentleman:
