Aug 7th rides

I see someone did the Aug 6th and 8th daily ride thread but no 7th, so I will start one. It was the big day that my fellow co-workers have had planned for 2 months. Our big ride and BBQ after. We were supposed to meet around 830am. I overslept, and then there was a detour due to road construction. However, they failed to put up detour signs, only the road closed signs. I had to call to get directions around the construction. I was late by almost 30 mins. A group of 10 were destined to meet, only 5 total showed up. 2 out of the 5 planned on doing half of the estimated 73 mile trip. We all went a slow pace and the 2 decided to go the whole way. This was a great feat for them, as the farthest they have ever ridden was 20-25 miles. We made frequent and longer stops after mile 40. We all completed 73 miles. There was rain in the forecast. We seemed to dodge the rain by minutes where ever we went. We all remained dry. The wind was another story, at times it could've easily knocked us over. The turning around point was at Hamlin Beach, part of Lake Ontario. First time I've ever seen the Lake. There was no public openings so we ventured down private roads to view the beautiful homes, landscapes, and the water. It was spectacular. One of the other riders and I wanted to take our shoes off and dip our feet in the water...we tried to find some one in their yards to see if they would let us do that from their dock, but we couldn't find anyone outside. We made it back around 3pm. We made shrimp & scallop & vegie kabobs while one of the guys got the charcoal briquettes ready. We had hot cheese dip and nachos, the kabobs, chicken curry salad, fruit salad, and for desserts we had tropical dump cake and some chocolate bars called dolce le leche. Of course they had beer and remember the mojito commercial from the Tour? We had those too to commerate the "big event". We had a blast. I'm sorry I have no pics to share. I so wanted to take a pic of the lake and show everyone. Someday I will have technology.
