when I got the coffee shop, everyone asked where I had gone. I said that I had gotten bored with doing the same ride every Saturday. I admit it was a lot nicer than doing the "Saturday Morning World Championships" :o

Thanks so much for always bringing along your camera on these rides, I get a kick out of seeing your local scenery.

I joined the club for a MadDog century today. Boy was it hilly! It seemed as soon as we crested one hill there was another hill waiting for us. It was a sunny, hot, humid day here in Kentucky, perfect riding weather. We made our way from Louisville to Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and back. The scenery was awesome, a lot of the roads were poorly maintained, and we missed a couple of turns because there were no street signs. My legs and attitude were not good for the first half - was not convinced I wanted to be riding today. However, after lunch I joined a group that set a great pace. My legs felt great and my attitude improved as well. I settled into a nice rhythm and the last fifty miles though hilly and tough were great miles.

We logged 100.39 miles today and I averaged 15.5 mph. I'm tired!

Okay, so I feel like a lightweight compared to Fredwina and makbike, but my first ride in a month due to a really bad sinus infection. 25 miles on Key Biscayne, the ocean wind was kicking but I pulled my 6'5, 250 pound husband the whole way. Having him behind me was motivation enough, if I slowed down he would smoke me. One hour and twenty minutes, at 9 o'clock in the morning with the Miami heat, I'll take it. The best is when we get there you can hear the sea lions barking from the nearby Seaquarium. (Honey, did you say something?)

I didn't have a long ride today, but it was a very satisfying one. I rode with a friend from out of town. Now, you have to understand that he is one of the people that have always made me feel incompetent. He has always been stronger, more endurance, fewer fears...I always lag behind. We went on the bike trail this AM for a nice friendly 15 mile ride and I had to hold back for him! Okay, he has not been on a bike much for a while and he was on my mountain bike (with smooth tires) and I was on my road bike...but still I was feeling pretty proud of myself that he was struggling to keep up. In fact all afternoon now he has been moaning every time he moves...lol.

It is probably not nice of me to enjoy this, but it feels so good to be better than him at SOMETHING!

Hee hee... I rather enjoyed your story, Barb! I have a friend I'd kind of like to experience that with.

Mr. Silver...i'm with you on MB.. but I finally got in and uploaded my ride..
I went on a rare (of late) group ride - one of the MS training rides going on. The course was only up to 30 miles so far, so we added a few more.
I don't know about where you guys/gals all live, but it is deathly hot here. I would have liked to go further/longer, but at 11 oclock neared, it was already 98degrees! I think I nearly did 47 at a near 17mph pace. It was a pretty flat ride. SOME inclines, but no real hills (except for one nasty 7% long one). My avg hr (which has been a little worrisome - see another post of mine in the Health forum) was lower for this muchly hill-less ride. I think I will now rest easier about the HR thing... ;)

I rode my new bike today with a small group, total of 3 of us - 35 miles of cow pastures and countryside along the Chattooga River (I'm told it's NOT the same Chattooga river that Deliverance was filmed on, that there's another Chattooga River on the other side of the state but whatever, if I hear banjos I'm pedaling faster, thanks).

Speaking of banjos, we did stop at a quick mart of sorts today. I asked to use the bathroom and the greasy guy behind the counter was muttering to himself and says "I guess you can use the one upstairs" - talk about CREEPY PLACES! Dark staircase, two gross looking mattresses on top of icky carpet... Then while I'm in there, he comes up the stairs and says I'd have to turn the water on in order to flush (mutter mutter mutter mutter mutter back down the stairs). Since he muttered so much, I couldn't tell if he wanted me to turn it on from the little spicket under the toilet or that HE would have to turn the water on! I go back downstairs, and he doesn't look at me, just mutter mutter mutter and definitely NOT complimentary muttering.

Next time, I'm knocking on a farmhouse door. Or peeing in the woods somewhere.

MelissaM & I rode Mt Hamilton today, accompanied partyway by LeeBob. It was hot and the last few miles to the summit were effin' hard. :p

Lee & I hung out at Mel's after and her and her roomies forced me - forced me, mind you ! - to drink mass quantities of wine. Oy, life is tough. :)

LOL! As for your on demand powder room--you can always duck behind a farm implement if you see one. ;)

I'm way behind on my training for the Crater Lake Century. Way behind.

Longest and hardest rides to date:
64.8 miles and 2,248' climbing or 46 miles and 3,300' climbing (pick one)

So yesterday I decided it would be a good plan to ride 91 miles and 5,550' around Mt Bachelor. I not only did it but even did it at my normal more-fit pace. Even with 10 extra pounds of Rubenesque beauty. Just think what I could do with less beauty.:p

Ha! We were just giving you a mild handicap for today's ride. ;)

I did the Marin Century (easy route) (self supported, as my registration did not go through and I do not "poach", but had already promised to ride w/ my SIL who was registered) - also hottish with nasty headwinds, and then - get this - I was forced to drink great quantities of beer after. Oh the horror!!!

It's been terribly hot and I've been recovering from a long visit to the ER a week ago with my asthma and allergies so I hadn't been riding. The forcast was for low humidity and a bit lower temps today and I figured if I'm going to get a ride in this week, it will need to be today.
With my 30 mile ride yesterday "The Little Navigator That Could" crossed the 6,000 mile mark with 6,023.6 miles!!! 5,589.10 of those outdoor miles and all but 124 of those were between 7/05 and 11/06.
The morning started in the mid 70's with very low humidity and bright sunshine. I had a pretty gusty headwind out of the NNW heading up to Carmel from town. I rode downtown to the White River Greenway and over to the Canal Tow Path and then to the Monon.
I rode up to The Bike Line to get the Trek Ion 6 LED headlight and the Flare 7 tailight. I should be able to see and be seen great now!
As if in protest to getting the new light set and installing the tailight at the store, I was heading down a grade in Carmel and hit a bump, I heard crashing and bouncing and I looked down at my handlebars. My old headlight evidently was telling me "Well PHOOEEY on YOU!!" and tumbled down a rocky embankment never to be seen again... Better the old light than the new one!!!!
I headed back towards town and finally was bonking big time so I headed to College Ave from the Monon and caught the bus the rest of the way home. I'm toast and exhausted. The hot shower felt great.
