Constant Numbness in 'Saddle' area

Hi all,

This is my 1st post on the site. I hope you can help me ...

I currently ride a Specialized Ruby Pro 08, with a Jett Saddle. I have loved that bike ever since I got it last october and I think the saddle is very confortable.

However, I have been feeling ( or 'not feeling' hehe) a constant numbness in the 'saddle area' for the past few days, even when I am not on the bike. It feels 'asleep' .. I am not sure how to explain. I have never felt that before.

Is it due to me spending more time on the saddle? I cycled 260km (in 2 days) last weekend. (the sun was out for once ).

Maybe you can direct me to a previous topic if that has already been discussed ...

I would most definitely call a doctor about this one.

If you've been numb now for a few days, that is a matter for concern.

It sounds like you have pinched a nerve or two. That is NOT normal. I don't necessarily think a doctor will be able to help since the damage has been done, but I would not ride another mile on that saddle, as temporary damage can become chronic over time.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what to suggest re. another saddle, but obviously the one you have is not working for you. Have you had a bike fit?

Good luck -- hope you'll get the feeling back soon! The only place I've ever had numbness after riding was in my two smallest fingers on my left hand, and the feeling did come back before too long (and never recurred, interestingly).

I would also get it checked out. Let us know what they say.

I decided not to race tonight. I called the physio who seems to think it's my back. I guess the sciatic nerve might have been crushed. It's strange that it also affect my wrist, arm, and leg ... but I know it's all linked.
I am seeing the physio tomorrow ... I hope all is ok .. because I am in good form and I really want to get out on the bike again soon.
