What's the weirdest thing you've pulled out of your tires?

Inspired by Jocelyn's thread...

Last year I pulled the end of a staple out of the side of my rear tire. Not a desktop kind of staple, a great big construction staple, like maybe 18 gauge, but just half of it, and mostly straight, like the other end had broken or worn off.

The tire was almost brand new so it still had lots of tread on it, and that's what saved me from getting a flat - I just found the staple when I was inspecting the tire.

I saw the glint of metal and thought it was just a little shard. I started digging for it - and digging - and then I realized I had to stop digging and pull. I couldn't BELIEVE the piece of metal that came out, nearly 1 cm long, without puncturing the tube or even penetrating the cords! It was just lodged in the tread. I don't quite know how it got there since I don't think I corner that hard!

DBF once had a flat and when he investigated, it was the broken-off tooth from someone else's bike's rear cog. Worn down so much it was as sharp as a knife.

I think I pulled the tip of a needle out of my tire the other day! (with pliers so I did not get poked)

Wow - I just pulled the same kind of staple out of my road bike tire yesterday. I noticed after I had the bike on the car that the brand new rear tire was totally flat. We were in a huge hurry, so I had to wait until we got where we were going to change it. When I finally looked at it, this pretzel-shaped staple was sticking out. As a road tire with 100lbs of pressure and no tread, it did go through the tube. What I don't understand is how I never knew I ran over this thing until the next time I got the bike out.:confused:

DH had a roofing nail puncture tire, tube and jam into the rim:eek::eek: Thankfully it stopped just short of drilling another spoke hole.

Yeah, I guess I should've been more specific to show how weird it was - mine was on a 110# road tire also (Michelin Lithion). Somehow the staple managed to get in sideways. Like when we used to sew our fingertips together as children by sticking the needle and thread through the top couple of layers of skin (everybody did do that, right, it wasn't just the bizarre kids at my school :confused::D).
