bike is a bike? maybe...

I'm the first to admit for being cheap. I wont hesitate to reuse something if it can. I've used inner tubes with maybe a dozen patches...

I don't race! (what?) That's right I don't race (long story) I can't really.

Anyway, since I'm not supposed to be racing anymore, there is no real point in spending mega bucks for Colnago, deRosa or any of the real racing bike. A modestly priced bike frame will do... So I thought.

I love the way my K2 mod6 handles and the power transfer but its been bothering me on just one thing. Shifting on the rear deraillure is just been plain lousy. I've adjusted and adjusted it. runs smooth and shift smooth on the flat. I get to a hill and start powering up and my shifting goes out the door not to mention adustment is all out of whack. I've played with the barrel screw on the climb 6-8% grade and if I straighten it out while under power, it shifts horribly when I take it easy afterwards.

Is my frame flexing?? can't be because I'm still getting good power transfer.

is the rear cassette on tight? yes it is and all the spacers are in properly.

bottom bracket on tight? yes.

yes and yes to all but one thing.

is the replaceable drop out on tight? Well it is BUT IT FLEXES!!! I'm off to a pow wow with some racing mechanics and go over this interesting find.

Can a drop out flexing cause this problem?? I don't expect to see whole lot of force being applied to the rear deraillure but...

bike has just over 2000 miles since the beginning of the year. very low milage.

Depressing to think I may have to buy a REAL FRAME!!!

Love litespeed, Merlin, Ridley, Storck (I absolutely fell in love with Storck!!), Colnago (but I would have to use campy record for that euro sheek snobbiness). deRosa, Orbea...

or even Specialized, Trek, Seven, Guru, Griffen, Cervello, Giant, Look, Cannondale... no particular order.

To the bike shop owners here and to the mechanics here, can a flexing drop out cause this shifting problem?? and would it even flex because I just don't see how it can be stressed.

BTW I love my specialized transition pro with SRAM FORCE. Set up is TT and I have no complaints about shifting. I do average about 4MPH faster than the k2 mod6. Transition Pro is a keeper!!!

Did you check for loose cones in the rear hub? A flexing dropout is kind of scary. Aluminum can't take much flexing before it breaks. That's why those dropouts are replacable. I'd replace it immediately and then see how the bike rides.
