We had a pretty weird hailstorm today.....

was it accompanied by thunderstorm activity?
Yes, scary black sky and pelting hail and thunder and lightning and winds!!!!
In the middle of it my husband came over and said cheerily "Let's go for a bike ride!" Too funny.
Odd to see my pots of cactus full of white ice balls like styrofoam beads.
Looks like spring time in central Texas to me. :D
Ouch.
I got stuck in one of those while kayaking once.
Fortunately, a well placed bridge..........:D
We had our first hailstorm a couple of weeks ago. I'd never seen hail before in my life. It's really wild! Glad you were not out on a ride when it happened.
I was in the hail storm twice today. Once while at work and then when I got home. Apparently, the storm took that long to get from one part of NY to my house. My poor car.
Isn't it funny how something completely normal to one person is bizarre to another? When I looked at those pictures that looked like tiny hail to me, wouldn't even faze us Texans. Now put down a dusting of snow or ice and the world stops here but I have had friends from New York who think we are silly for getting panicked about it. My friend from Connecticut also couldn't believe the high overpasses we have here since ice is a rare occurance.
Ditto what AggieAma said.
Hail can be so...LOUD...andy scary
I was in a horse show once. I hailed but it was in October. I couldn't decide if it was hail or sleet. My horse got really freaked out.
It was pretty violent- you would not be able to stand out in it. The photos didn't really do it justice (honest!) :D
But yes it's true- one person's extreme is another person's everyday occurrence. :) We in the northeast do have our chuckles around here when we hear about all the panic down south when they get a half inch of snow or something.
One minute it was raining then it starting hailing. Yesterday I had heard we might get large sized hail (up to 1/2 inch I think) but it was sorta like corn or pea sized. Didn't last long. I couldn't ride yesterday d/t the winds, blue sky's turned to black and poured rain, then back to blue. Just didn't want to take any chances.
The hubby got caught out in a hailstorm awhile back. He stood straight and put his gloved hands over his shoulders. Good thing for his helmet. Lucky it wasn't really big stuff- he was bruised up bad enough as it was. I happened to be making a delivery not far away from him...the ice went though 1 1/2 layers of the cardboard radiator box that was in the back of my truck.
Poor hubby!
So far- knock on wood- we've not seen the sort of stuff other parts of town have gotten, that golf ball and bigger sized stuff.
From another storm a couple of years back, no damage, just lots of little ice pellets...the hubby just got back from a road ride...
