runny nose
I read the post about eye watering and it made me think about my problem while riding.
I know this is gross, but do any of the rest of you have an over abundance of mucus production during riding. I swear I can be perfectly clear, blow my nose and make sure I can breath well, but I get a few miles down the road and I need to blow my nose again already. It drives me crazy, I'm constantly sniffling and I feel like it affects my breathing ability to an extent while riding.
My husband doesn't have this problem, and I have never heard anyone else complain of this but me. Am I all alone in this and just weird? LOL

Yep, I get a runny nose too. It helps if I take a Claritan before I ride. I forget to take it half the time though, so I've started carrying them in my handlebar bag.

Whenver I exercise my nose runs like crazy.
Search for the word "rocket" on this forum. :)

That reminds me, I need to wash my gloves.
I suspect lots of people get runny noses, since most of the cycling gloves I've seen have soft, towel-like cloth on the back of the thumb.

My avatar title this winter was Chief Snot Rocketeer. Say no more

<------ changed my title (and thoroughly washed my gloves :p) after this weekend
There's even a name for it, exercise-induced rhinitis, and it's very common. The most frequent form is a runny nose that doesn't interfere with breathing, but congestion is common, too. Try using a neti pot before your workout.

Me too!!! my nose runs during every ride. My little Bento Box always has tissues.
My nose also runs when I eat.

Gloves and sometiems jerseys are designed with wiping surfaces.
In my breathing class we learned most poeple have a preferred nostril fo rbreathing. This came as no surprise to me since I rocket so much better from the left. I'm grateful that things tend to be easily dismissed in that fashion and that I do so much riding out in the cornfields.

Hmmm, we usually get this question in the fall, not the spring.
:D

My right hand is the snot hand:eek: Thanks for the reminder to clean my gloves:p

I love my air hanky. My nose runs all the time and it's a relief when I'm bicycling and can just snort it out. Sometimes when I'm walking down the sidewalk in polite company I have to remind myself it's not appropriate.

You girls crack me up!!! I remember a long time ago reading about the snot rockets now that it has been mentioned. I actually tried it once. Sorry, I wasn't pretty, and I won't try it again. LOL
I have a rack with a bag on the back and I carry tissues with me, I just get tired of having to stop to blow my nose. I will have to try the neti pot that oakleaf suggested and see if it helps.
It doesn't make me want to stop riding, I just wondered why in the world this over production of mucus happens while exercising.
As far as fall or spring, it doesn't matter for me, it happens always.

I carry at least three tissues in my bento box and each one is throughly used by the end of the ride. I have to wash my gloves after I ride too as they are the backup wipes. Snot rockets come next. One windy day I was covered in snot from the top of my head to my hips. Even my jactet had to go in the wash after that ride. Good luck to you!

Put my nose down as being a runny one when riding or doing any sort of exercise! A PE teacher that Joe and I used to ride mountain bikes with said runny noses meant an allergic reaction to exercise! I don't know if he was pulling my leg or if he was being serious. He sure kept a straight face and continued to explain about something being released into your blood system when you exercise and this causes a sort of (not serious) allergic reaction causing the nose to run. Now was he telling the truth? To this day I never knew if I should have believed him?!
Oh and I carry tissues with me. Or just wipe my nose on my glove!
