how many of you are on teams? who's commuting!!
Today's my 3rd commute of the week. Scary wet skies didn't stop me today.
Is this bike to work month? I rode my bike today. When I looked out the window at 3:30am, I saw dry ground and a slight breeze. When I took off at 4am, it was still dry at my house and 40F. One mile into my ride, the ground was wet and I noticed a little 'stuff' falling (not sure if it was snow or elm trees dropping seed pods). Within the next mile, there was snow on the grass and the ground was very wet. Half way to work, temp now 35 and more 'stuff'. At work, the grass was white, but no stuff falling. Temp now is 34 and it is snowing:eek:...Maybe I will have to take the bus home tonight:o
Colorado's bike to work day is later in the year. The weather in May is just too unpredictable (she says, looking out the window and seeing the rain turn to big white fluffy things).
*checks*
ahah.

COLORADO BIKE MONTH
June is Bike Month
BIKE TO WORK DAY
The Fourth Wednesday of every June
So, is it May for the rest of the country?
Ours is in june and I am the team leader in a team of 4. We're calling ourselves City chicks... I'll send out motivational quotes every other day :D
Here it's in June, but I don't know about teams.
I'll actually start my "long distance" (12 km, compared to the current 1 km) commute tomorrow. Should be fun!!
We are never organized around here :( :( We have more cycling commuters than most places but all too little happening to get other people to cross the line. Still trying!
I'm on a team - since I only work 2 days a week and only commute 12 miles a day I'm not adding too much, but hey, miles is miles. (if I bike to my volunteer position that should count too though - right?) that would put me up to 3 days and more miles.
I'm not on a team of any sort, but I did ride today. Today was the first time since moving here I had trouble finding a place on the bike rack to lock my bike though!
Either people are thinking in terms of 'Bike to Work' month...or they are just itchin' to get out when the sun is shinning! (I'm putting my bet on reason # 2 ;)).
I cant bike to work, I live next door to my job! :( no matter which way I go its still less than half a mile!
Here, this is supported by the department of health and other orgs. It does not matter how many miles you cover "human powered", you can even walk, but it matters that you do at least 50% of your working days in June.
You can even win prizes. Hope we get something...
Scary skies?
how about a hail shower 3 weeks ago, that left over an inch of hail on the ground. I thought I could do it. Then I got scared. Hitched the bike on the tram and 2 stops later, it was gone. Sorta like in cartoons where they have the cloud just over their heads....
I'm commuting by bike, but then I always do. I'm also going to declare a "bike to school" day on the 16th. I did this last year and it was a huge success. Students who ride their bikes to school will receive a Gatorade, and we take their picture for the local paper. They can park their bikes in my room. I think about 10 bikes were in my room last year. Crowded by fun!
ramp it up, Uforgot, make them do it 5 times in a month for prizes
Dingster, do you walk to work ? (that's just as good IMHO)
Alpinerabbit you always make me look like the coward that I am.
You won't see me riding if there is a chance of hail.
Ours is next month. I'm not on a team / no team organized for the Bike Month.
This spring, so far, have been bike commuting only several times per week.
For some previous employers, I lived only 3 kms. one way from work. So to make bike commute, fitness-oriented/worthy, I quadrupled the distance one-way with a modified route before I got into work.
My bike commute portion 1 way is 13 kms. --part of a 40 km. total commute 1way. To cycle the whole distance just for work commuting, would be quite circuitous.. in order to deal with bypassing part of a major highway where bikes are forbidden, major road bridge where there are enough car collisions, etc.
The only thing that I have done for my workplace is to provide bike maps and some distance summaries for some suggested bike trips. To my surprise I did get at least 15 people asking for bike maps...which for a suburban and industrial workplace area, where 98% of our employees drive, is a good start.
