April 28 rides

Thought I had driven this route to be about 24 miles, but when I came home and went through my maps it looks to be closer to 20 miles. No wonder it only took me 2 hrs even with all my rest breaks.

I wasn't able to get started before the wind (8 - 9 mph, not that bad but a headwind that veered so I had it going and coming!) began. By time I moved my cows, fed my heifers and threw a load of clothes in the wash it was 9 a.m.

This was the first time I've done this loop this year. I enjoyed the hills rather than resisting them and glad I kept going rather than turning around after only a few miles. My cycling is getting smarter with more timely gear shifting. Plus this mornings temperature was very mild, in the 70's so that makes things easier than 95 degrees.

Wildlife spotted: Barn owl, hugely PG whitetail, and a pond slider catching some rays. All in all a lovely ride.

I won't be riding or running today...

I am so jealous of your route!! That looks stunning! I don't have anything like that near me. :(

I have swim/run brick today, so probably no ride for me. :( Tomorrow, though!

Just a short, gentle 15km ride on my Monday - anticipating doing a mock Time Trial on the Tuesday...

Did an easy recover ride today, nice warm weather and a slight breeze. Ended up doing 37 mies and filling my belly with lots of BBQ on the way home.

It's raining buckets here in NY, so no ride for me. Still sore from a weekend hike and a ride yesterday.

It's freezing out and raining. I did yoga after a weekend of hiking and gardening.
I realized I had ridden 12 days in a row, with one day off, so I am taking it easy this week.

Chilly this a.m. for the commute... and then we had white stuff coming from the sky. Hail? Sleet? Mixed reports. Since it would never do that while I was outside, I can't say :D I was going to ride long this a.m. but decided instead to do those breathing exercises we learned... which generate a fair amount of heat, so I was very warm. Still got in an extra 3 miles at a mellow pace (so I didn't sweat too much into the layers).

It should clear out by the time I leave, but I *did* forget to put a plastic bag on the seat :( Ah, well, I'm goin' home.

OMG Beelady....that looks like a great ride! I would love to do a ride like that.

We went mountain biking on some great logging roads, they had just laid new crushed rock down...the BIG stuff....so it was real bouncy. I can feel my arms and back today! But the weather was lovely, the mountains were beautiful, the trees were blooming and I was with my hubby and my boy. It could not have been more perfect!

That does look like a cool ride. And is a pond slider a... frog? Haven't heard that one before! Do we have them in Washington state?

I had high hopes for a 1.5 hr ride outdoors but it was blowing quite a bit around the time I was going to leave. Being lazy and wimpy as I am, I considered just laying around instead like the polar bear pic (pretty cool one, btw), but instead hopped onto the trainer.

Got in 75 minutes, with 4x 3min "lactate threshold" intervals with 3 min rests in the center. I have no idea what lactate threshold is for me, but I figured it to be perceived effort of 8-9? So that's what I did. The first one I burned out in 30 seconds and made only one minute, so rested a min then finished. The next three I didn't go quite as hard, so as to be able to finish all three minutes! :p Doesn't sound like long, but seems like a lifetime when doing it!

And got to catch up on some vcr taped tv at the same time. Productive!

Pond slider is a turtle -- they are moving from pond to pond this time of year. They understand genetic diversity apparently. Or overcrowding. Lots of them on the highways and roads.

We had the most beautiful day here - I can't even begin to describe how beautiful the weather was.


I got a 50 mile ride in today. The traffic was virtually non-existent on the back country roads. I have some tan lines and a huge smile to evidence the day! Thanks, God!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I took the doggies out for their run with the bike and then I headed for the state park. I noticed my rear tire was a little low so I proceeded to use my new hand pump. Well, 15 minutes later my tire was completely flat as I tried to figure out why the gizmo wouldn't seal around the presta valve. Finally got it aired up and then the presta valve broke off. :mad: So I had to cut my ride short and all I had was 5 miles in. :mad: Guess I'll have to ride my road bike until the valve gets repaired. :rolleyes:

Wow, big-time high five for being structured enough to ride the trainer in late April! I burned out around February and literally can't even look at the thing until I see snow next year (it's in the back of my closet). :p

I have had a presta snap too - SO frustrating! Do you carry a spare tire? Did you walk home 5 miles? That'd be one heck of a walk in road bike shoes :eek: !! Good thing you weren't on your road bike!

I have a presta to sage converter in my seat bag - I wonder if they work after a presta valve snaps???
