Groan.... thanks for the reminder. Every year my students want me to bring them pies. (I teach math). By the way, it's not spelled "pie" day it's "pi" day.
But...why doesn't Google change its logo for Pi-e Day? I mean, they change it for all the other holidays, it is a rather geeky joke, they have a rather geeky reputation, and, the two o's just scream to be turned into pie. Doncha think?
In my world it's PIE....http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...01C56089-1.jpg
Ah, Pi Day. My 11 yo knows it to the 28th digit. Yes, she has a life too.
Yum....pie!
According to the Googol Learning Ezine, "The exact moment to yell out your favorite irrational number is March 14 at 1:59:26 p.m (3.1415926)."
When I was in high school, one of our regular opponents in sports was the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. We thought they were all geeks, but we really just wanted to be as smart as they were.
In basketball, whenever a NCSSM (or S&M, as we called it ) player shot a free-throw, the whole crowd from my school would yell out, "3.14159! Who's the NERD on the line!" Oh, and we'd all dress up in lab coats and wear geeky glasses with tape on the nosepiece.
Kids can be so mean.
Raleighdon, my DH is famous for his pies. he often carves a pi sign on the top! :D
DD loves her math teacher. She spent several days memorizing pi to about 90 digits, and is bringing homemade pecan pie to class. I think she's a bit of a geek in training, but that's ok by me. ;)
I never thought of today as Pi day. I was not able to experience any of these fun activities like bringing pie to class when I was in school. Some people might think I was hidding under a rock or something....
Thanks for the reminder of what today is...it will help me remember when I constantly forget the day's date today...

I never even heard of Pi day, and I was an engineering major at an ivy league school (talk about nerdy)... Learn something new every day.
