I took my dogs out for a snowshoe the other morning. We'd had about a foot and a half of new snow overnight. Both of them started off right away sniffing some coyote tracks. (I know it was coyotes because they'd been howling under our window at 4am.) Then they started running down the tracks. I yelled for them to stop, but they were on their way.

Since the snow was deep they couldn't go to fast and I was able to catch up. I FLUNG myself on Toby and grabbed him and managed to snag Cameron's collar. In the process of thrashing around, wrestling with them, I lost a snowshoe. While I was getting it, both of them took off into the woods again.

I caught them again and put them on their leashes. The rest of the walk was a drag, literally. Have you ever tried walking 2 dogs on leashes in snowshoes? Don't. Take my word for it.

My dogs are not used to seeing me so angry. So when we got home, Cameron took himself off to his bed. Toby, on the other hand, sly, vindictive guy that he is, went and lay down on my doctor bag (which I had stupidly left on the floor when I came home the night before), and DRIPPED the snow from his fur into it. Now everything was soaked! Aaarrrgghhh!!

Anyone want a couple of dogs????

You bring back memories of pulling Ickey off the neighbor's feeder calves. At least it was only snow you had to brush off yourself and the dogs, and only water that got on your bag :p:eek:

I miss her. But I bet she's having a great time playing Lunge At God's Face.

Roadie - I had a similar experience with my dogs, on x-country skis. And when we got home, Branwen (now at the Rainbow Bridge) acted like I was going to drown her, when I put her in the tub to warm her paws and melt the snow in warm water. She would happily go swimming in icy water, but heaven forbid a bath tub. Nala tolerated her soaking, then went and hid. Dogs, leashes, and x-country skis don't mix well either. Especially when there's fresh scents to chase.

The dogs are yours, unless they like the truck ride to Zen's.

I had the same experience with my Weimaraner but the object of her affection was chickens. It wasn't funny at the time, but now we are able to laugh and the joke goes "if you DO catch one, get one with an egg in it".

Anyhow, our dog trainer trains shepherds as cadaver dogs. She is well known in numerous states and is frequently called out for search and rescue missions as well. She has trained dogs numerous times for drug hunts.

I told her about my chicken adventure and she set up a private training session with myself, my hubby, and my weim. She showed us how to use a shock collar. She uses them in the field with all of her dogs. I LOVE the collar, and my weim, surprisingly enough, BEGS to have it put on. We have started calling it the adventure collar.

We put a shock collar on Cameron in the summer to keep him from chasing deer. We're very specific about it's use: we only use it for the command "STOP". He's an absolute angel when it's on. We rarely have to use it.

Your story brought back a 19 year old memory. I had a gray and white cat, Motor, who needed a bath. I soaked him in the sink, applied the shampoo and rinsed. I then wrapped him in a towel and dried him as best I could and then set him free to put himself back together. I went about cleaning up my mess and walked into my living room to find Motor sitting in the middle of my open grade book. His little wet body had soaked the pages and all the colorful grades I had entired had created a beautiful rainbow of ink across the pages :eek: Thank goodness I had spent the night before putting grades in my home computer or I would have been in a real bind given the grading period was coming to a close and I knew my 8th graders had not kept up with nine weeks of papers.

Just a suggestion, if you ever take the dogs for a walk which happens to include a creek, make sure you don't tie the leash to your waist or ANY other body part. My Brodie took me for a drag (http://www.splendad.com/ads/show/1305-Petco-What-a-Drag) much like this video, when I did that. Fortunately we both swim. :)

:confused: chasing coyotes, deer chicken oh my! coyote oh my!!!

I guess our two dawgs are real city slickers. A golden and a lab mix. They wouldn't know what it is or what to do. They know not to chase cars, bikes and the like.

Our lab mix is very fond of the mailman though. We have a mail slot in our front door. And when the mail man approaches, Cody goes banannas barks like a junk yard dog. When the letters, mostly junk, comes part way through the slot, he chomps down and rips it out of the mailman's hand. Every day he does this. Thank goodness we know our mailman well so he takes it in stride. He also "feeds" cody the junk mail first.
