Last Sunday in January Rides

Can we celebrate? The last Sunday in JANUARY. This week, the average day time high goes up to 43 degrees! The days are getting longer....

Best of all, I got to ride OUTSIDE for the first time since our snow on the 17th. There still were a couple icy sections, but I could easily manuever around them. Didn't mind the cold temps because I was just so happy to be outdoors. Got in 43 miles before decided to head home for some rowing. Yesterday, I slogged it out for about 3 hours in Lake Placid with my Baltimore pal, Coach Troy so my legs were fried.

Tomorrow's ride will be cold and dark, but it will be OUTSIDE.

Well, like you V I am feeling pretty darn good about my Sunday ride. Great you had nice weather for it... and you are heading into better weather so hopefully not too many dark rides (like you think tomorrow's will be) left.
It was a 50km fun ride with some significant hill climbs (one took me 15 minutes to climb!).

It was a great day to ride, it was forecast for rain, but the rain stayed away and it was overcast so much more pleasant than last year when the temperature climbed into the 30s (celcius that is). Two of my sons rode. My 14yr old came 12th in the 50km ride, and my 12 yr old came 4th in the 10km ride so they were both happy too.

I had a personal goal of beating my 2007 time and coming in the top 100... I did both AND won a cool $50 folding chair as a spot prize.

Last year my time was 2:05 and yesterday I was 1:53

Congrats on beating your own time and finishing in the top 100. Not bad either to win a prize. Always good.

well I wanted to reach my goal of 10,000 feet of climb and 150 mile of ride. Didn't think I could do it with the severe winter storms. When I woke up it was sunny. Looked at the sky and it was pretty blue so I went. Only needed 10 miles and 800 feet climb so I figured on doing about 20+ miles and about 1400feet of climb. at mile 6 I got a flat. bum deal. replaced it with a spare used one CO2 cartridge started up and within 2 miles got a second flat :confused::confused: did check the tyre before putting in the second one. So this time I took the tyre off and carefully checked. Sure enough there was a glass shard embedded and only way I could see it was by pinching the tyre. Patched up my spare, used my last CO2 cartridge, rode to the top of the hill and decided to call it for a day. Turned around and came home. Measley 15 miles and 850 feet of climb.

The good news is that I did meet my goal of 150 miles and 10,000 feet of climb. Oh 30 minutes after I came home, it started to pour buckets.

Silver and I felt puny after 23 miles. We expected 51 degrees, but it was 28 when we left with winds at 10mph to 20mph. It warmed up some on the ride, but wasn't what we expected. I was on SilverSon's Pilot, not my own bike...I feel exhausted.

We went to the nursing home to see my dad. All the old folks gathered at the window and waived as we did sprints back and forth outside the window to entertain:DIt's the little things in life:D

This gets me about 100 miles for January! I wouldn't have expected that weather would have allowed that!

I'm starting to plot course for a 120 mile ride from Bloomington to Evansville!

After over a week of rain and cold (well cold for Texas...) it warmed up, the sun came out, and I was finally able to get out for a real ride on my new bike! Went for a nice 35 mile ride with one of my riding buddies and I have to say... I am in love! The bike is amazing. We ride some pretty rough roads, and while you can still feel the bumps it is much less harsh than on my old Trek 1500. The other major thing that I noticed is that in going from 650 wheels to 700s I have a much easier time maintaining higher speeds on the flats.

All in all a good ride.

Well, I've been help out with the women's ride. I left my place at 1:30. it was starting to sprinkle. Of course, It started to pour about 2 miles from the park. Waited around, no one showed, so I went back home with 15 more miles

Well I am lucky since in live in Florida and CAN ride year round. Winter I can sleep in since I dont' have to "beat the heat". Did a 56 mile ride. Me and my friend road from our house to the trial to meet a couple for friends. So it was a "city" ride with stops, etc. Then a bit on the trail to find a place for breakfast. Then the ride home. So lots of stops, not real fast, but time on the bike. It was "cool" for Florida, 60's and breezy. We are such wimps here. But most of the day sunny and blue sky.
Ride took up most of the day...but what else would one do?
Heading to CT next weekend, so no riding:(
