Ahhh, I almost beat you, but my dog insisted on going for a walk before I had a chance to check in...........
I got in 20 miles today---my "long" ride of the week, and longest of the year so far. Temps were in the low 40s, but I dressed well enough to handle the chill factor. Rode two "laps" on one of my favorite country roads around here---a pretty quiet paved 5-mile long road that runs right up to the base of a mountain. From there it turns gravel, steep and winding, so about the only folks who drive the length of it are residents. Highlights include creek, pastures, woods, barns, mountaintops---yum!
Got chased briefly by a determined little Jack Russell who looked about as fierce as a wind-up toy. I teased him about his big ears and left him yapping happily in the dust. ;)......... Slow ride overall; I'm nursing a tender lower back at the moment so didn't push it today.
Here in rural NY DH and I went for a hilly 17 miles at 35 degreesF...but it was partly sunny and no wind, so we were fine. Got a good leg workout.
I wore 3 pairs gloves, 3 pairs wool socks inside hiking boots, 2 tights, 3 merino tops, a wool helmet liner, and a hi-vis wind vest. After climbing a few hills I took off one merino top. On the way back (mostly long cold descents) I had to put it back on again.
We are expecting 3-7" of snow tonight, so I guess I'll be snowshoeing tomorrow instead of biking. :p
I went for a hilly ride today and covered 24.7 miles. It was overcast, windy and mid 30's. I felt good during most of the ride but on the way back I started to fade a little. My legs were getting fatigued after doing 83 miles this past week. I wanted to get in as many rides as I could before the snow showers came. I've moved up to #6 in the TE club on BiJou. :) This is so fun and I really enjoy being a part of a neat group of cyclists.
By the way, is it *cheating* to add indoor miles too?
7 degrees C here. 42 kms. through the city and afterwards went grocery shopping with bike --Granville market and Chinatown.
'Cause of my work schedule and cranky weather off and on, I haven't biked for past 8 days.
Felt good. Some light sun showers but ok. Cursed that I didn't wear right type of gloves.
15 hilly, windy miles today. How can it be head winds both ways on an out-and-back ride??
I've only done short hilly rides so far this year; not many miles, but lots of feet up! At this pace (if the weather holds) I might get in 10k ft of climbing this month.
Would've been the perfect day to ride. Seattle was perfect! I love Granville Market too (different city but still).
DH and I had tickets to Shakespeare so I had to run instead. It was so nice out and I saw many cyclists. I have to say I was kind of jealous :D Was amazing to see how many people were all bundled up though. I was in just a t-shirt and capris. It was the perfect winter/spring/summer/fall day!
I did our women's ride and wound teach a flat tire clinic! got in 15 miles
That's great to hear, Z !
I did a 16 mile easy flat recovery ride today, along the Alameda Creek trail & then cut thru Coyote Hills park to watch a bit of the Early Bird Crits, then head back thru the park to home.
Near the end of yesterday's century a muscle on the outside of my right knee started to hurt, and it was achey all last night and this morning. Lots of gentle spinning seemed to help it a lot, though.
Hooray! FINALLY A NICE DAY! Joe and I took advantage and went for a road ride! It's been so long (spin class is not the same as the real thing!). We were initially only going to do about 25 or 30 miles but we ended up doing 41! We enjoyed the ride the day the sun and blue skies (something I haven't seen in a long time!) and NO wind! What a rare but beautiful day! And our weather outlook for the rest of the week is supposed to be dry!
:D
13 miles on Sunday in 41 degree temps. 12.5 miles on Saturday with 48 degrees temps. Finally got to enjoy the January thaw, just before today's big snowstorm.
Amazing that Seattle had such nice weather! We had dark threatening skies with occasional drizzle in the morning, so I pretty much abandoned my plans for an outdoor ride. Then my friend Tony showed up asking if I was riding and could he ride along? This kinda surprised me as he had had fairly major knee surgery just before Christmas and was still limping around in a knee brace/bandage thingy.
So ride we did. The rain held off but we rode into a stiff cold headwind. On the way back into town, some of that nice Seattle weather found us, the sun came out, and the wind dropped right off. Even though it was still cold, the sun felt wonderful.
By then, Tony's knee was playing up so we called it a day at ~34km's. Better than nothing!
