I like to do things on a monthly basis, rather than yearly. My yearly goal is just a total up of the 12 months. :D
January's goal is 370 miles. I'm planning on a 200 K, so that leaves me only 250 miles to get in otherwise. :p

Funny you should post this V
I have just finished a spread sheet of my last three full years of cycling. Its broken into months and gives me total kms for all Januarys etc biked, and averages for each month...
And this is how I am setting my overall goal for 2008...
In Jan 2005 I did 202.2km.
In Jan 2006 I did 202.16km.
In Jan 2007 I did 547.63km.
My average for January is 317.33km... so that is my minimum target for January 2008. However, I would like to reach at least 548km (which is more than my biggest January so far).
Looking forward to hearing about the 200K... I'm so impressed with cyclists who can do these enduro distances
I keep handwriting out those spreadsheets RR mentions, and then losing them in my office or who knows where.
Good luck with your goals! I'm not sure I have any goals for January.
(I just got back from 4 days in Tahoe, and I have to say I was SHOCKED at how much my legs hurt skiing. That is a sure sign I have NOT been riding enough the last several months. Oh well.)
I just made mine in Xcel, Mallio
I won't lose it then!
:p
(Cause like you, its something I do...)
I'm working my way towards getting back on my bike. I'm doing all my strengthening exercises for the hammies & glutes so me leg doesn't wobble. (nothing like not having a pcl ligament :o) I am doing most of the physio suggested exercises in the pool as it's so much easier to do one legged squats in water! (at least on the bad leg) I've borrowed a trainer & will work on making a complete circle with my right knee :D
So, i'm not committing to km's for Jan but i'd like to commit to spending 40min on the trainer each day if possible. I have no choice :(
Geez, between swimming, pilates, water based exercises, land bases exercises, beach walking, doggie walking and bike time i may actually have time to do something else!

Well let's see:
January 2006 - 0 km (didn't ride yet)
January 2007 - 53 km (rode the stationary bike but didn't have a trainer)
I think I can beat that. I'm hoping to ride the trainer twice a week. One 30 km ride and one ride that may be less.
So realistically, my goal:
January 2008 - 175 km on the trainer
January 2008 goal is......500 miles. Most if not all be logged on my trainer - winter has arrived in the Ohio Valley and I'm a weather wimp!
I am going to try and keep a spreadsheet of my riding time beginning with the new year. January will be miles I do on a trainer at the gym. The weather in January is horrible for outdoor cycling, at least for me.
Question:
The gym bikes of course do not have cyclometers with mileage. Do you think it would be okay to replace my one hour of riding in spin class with my average mileage on my real bike?
Sue
I never get as many miles on the trainer in an hour as I do outside in an hour. My average speed also tends to be a bit lower on the trainer.
I think it's because I use the trainer for intervals and the soft pedaling in between sets brings down my average. My HR average is always higher on the trainer.
It's your goal, you decide what counts.

Oh... my mileage goals are all on the road
I only count my inside/spin bike training in time. So in January (mid-summer here) I have no time on trainer... but come mid-winter I have road miles and trainer time (eg, in July this year I only did 328km on the road, but I also did 628minutes inside).
Hope your legs are easing Mallio... I have never snow-skied... one day mebbe...
My mileage goals are all outside miles. I do have my speed sensor on my rear wheel though so I know what mileage is in the trainer.

This is great, I am so much better with baby steps, so monthly is great!
My Jan. goals are:
Mountain bike - 80 miles (might be high, since we've had a lot of precipitation lately, but gonna give it a try when trail conditions allow). Doesn't seem like a lot, but mountain miles are so different then road miles and it's winter:mad:
Road - 120 miles (still prefer to be on my mountain bike; this will allow one road ride per week). Might include trainer miles here if the weather keeps up.
I will just place my indoor time down as time and not mileage. Better than nothing. I will try and get out on my mountain bike on rainy weekends and the gym on weekdays. Once the weather gets a bit nicer I will start road riding.
I only qualified my mileage goals as outside cause I am always interested to know whether others are indoors or outdoors - and because there is no wind or road resistence inside, the miles do register differently...
Of course, I am in the fortunate position of being in a country where I can ride outside all year round and am never snowed in...
