Can you name these four guys?
One is really easy.
You should be able to guess two of them.
If you've been following cycling for a while, you can probably get three out of four.
If you guess the fourth one, you're a superstar!!
First three I got immediately - Bobby, Lance & George. Circa 1993?
The last one, yikes. Tyler? :confused: ... nah.
I vote Tyler for the last one.
Nah - don't reckon it's Tyler. Is it Kevin Livingston who retired a couple of years ago?
Good guess, MM, I thought perhaps Kevin Livingston too, the timing certainly would be right. I looked up some older photos of KL and, to me anyways, the guy on the end looks even less like him than Tyler.

Going by process of elimination, it's definitely not Frankie"great hair" Andreu. I'm trying to think of other notable US riders from that era, geeze, there weren't that many :rolleyes:

MM, thought I'd post this here since you don't seem to read your PM's (or, you don't read them from me (cough, cough)) [I had PM'd you early in Nov. to beg you for the front page of a certain early November issue of the UK Guardian so I could frame it and hang it in my office, but you never opened the PM, but then the Guardian made a .pdf available on their website for downloading - luve you Brits!]
At any rate, the Dec. 17 "letters to cyclingnews" has some really great letters from people with advice on how to view the Spring Classics - thought you might enjoy them. Then again, you're an old hand at this, you could probably give them a pointer or 2 !

I just read these letters and dream about how much fun it would be to be a spectator at one of the Classics races in Belgium, complete with Belgian beer, yum. Cheering George on, of course ! (among others) - say, how's that for swinging back on topic? :cool:

Here's what I've found ...
An old CNNSI site lists the stats of the members of the cycling team participating in the Sydney Olymics, which included Armstrong, Hincapie, and Hamilton (Bobby J didn't go to the Sydney Olympics). Those stats list the various teams these 3 were on previously.
I'm figuring that photo was from somewhere in the early - to - mid 1990's

Well well well. Seems that Lance and George were on many of the same teams in the early-mid 90's, but Tyler wasn't on any of the teams that both George and Lance were on.
Unless this photo is from 1998. But wasn't Lance just returning from his cancer therapy in 1998?? So I'm not sure he would have looked like that. And I would think by 1998 someone would have clued George in about the hair ;)
So, assuming that AG's photo was from early-mid '90s, and that the photo was of one of the teams listed in these stats, and that the stats are correct - all big if's - then the guy at the end is not Tyler.
So now I'm looking up Bobby J's stats to see if I can narrrow it down some more. Hey, check out this 1998 article I stumbled across about Bobby and Kevin L's Cofidis days !

OK, from all this hunting & pecking, I'm thinking this photo is of the US National Team from 1991 or 1992 (I think Julich was at least on the 1991 team). So, who else was on that team in 1991?

Thanks for the link to cyclingnews.com. Good tips there. For Paris-Roubaix we usually go over just for the day on an early ferry from Dover. In the past we've taken a bbq and cooked burgers and sauages on the road side, along with all the Belgiums, but the weather is either freakishly hot, or freakishly cold. The previous year couldn't have been more different. It was rainy & freezing cold and I tried to warm my hands on a waffle.:p
Flanders is also great. We generally go with a group and ride the randonee the day before. This year my friend and I are going for the 87 mile route with 15 lovely climbs. (Shudder...)
On the day of the pro's race we usually park up nearer the end of the course and take our bikes. That way you can ride round all the lanes and get to see the race in several different places. You can get there quicker and get to spots that are just too jammed up to get cars through.
Then we head down into the nearest town, find ourselves a nice bar with a beer and a TV and watch the end. This is normally followed by a mad rush to get back to Calais before the ferry leaves. :D
Ok - here's the swing back on topic. (ish) The other year, at Paris-Roubaix we saw Freddy Martinez looking exhausted near the back, so my bf yelled 'GO ON FREDDY! ' at the top of his voice and Freddy even managed a half smile as his went past.

Well, that solves that little mystery! AG, you are evil.
There is so little cycling information on the net prior to around 1995! I thought, this should be easy, I could look up who represented the US at the cycling World Championships in 1991 - 1992 to find the name of the 4th guy (I was leaning more towards the World Championships team rather than the Olympics because Bobby J didn't go to Barcelona, he was 1st(?) alternate in 1992).
But I found nothing, nada, squat about who represented the US at the WC's from those years - I found from Lance's info that he went, I found from George's info that he went, I found from Bobby's info that he went at least in 91, but none of them deigned to mention who went with them. So, OK, following up on Kim's suggestion, who went to the Olympics in 92 besides Lance and George? Again, nothing. The USACycling site, the UCI site, the USOC site, the IOC site, all came up blank. Grrrr. Came across some great old articles while wading through Google, though. I suppose I should have saved the links (oops).
I never thought to check that treasure trove of information known as eBay. Congratulations Dogmama !

I just thought it was a pretty funny picture. It's from 1992. Things have really changed in 12 years!
