For that price, it would be in a shadowbox frame hanging on the wall;)
For that price, it better be an automatic shift and do all the shifting for me when I need it done (and clean itself, repair itself...)
That's really sweet. Let's see, if my first-gen Chorus components stay in the basement for another 36 years, how much will they be worth? :D
Dumb question though, for someone who doesn't know much bike history: why aren't there teeth on the pulleys?
That price blows my mind. Campy stuff other than Record wasn't that good in the 60s and 70s. Gran Sport was a lower grade of componentry. I bought a bike in 1974 that came with a Campy wide-range derailleur (don't remember if it was Gran Sport or what, but longer cage than that one) and it broke in less than a year. The major tension spring snapped. I replaced it with a SunTour VGT that worked much better. In contrast, I have a Campy Record derailleur that has been in continuous use since 1970 or before and it is still fabulous.
maybe they know something we don't know? wow. amazing.
Gee, I had one of those on my 1959 Frejus. My brother also had one. Wonder where those bikes are now . . .
They're selling the history, Tullio Campagnolo introduced the "Gran Sport" as the modern derailleur in 1951. This is one of the originals that make bicycles what they are today.
I'm not a bike history buff, I only know this because we were looking up inventions that occured during my grandmas lifetime for her birthday party.
I think it goes to show that some people just have more money than they know what to do with it. How many needy families would that feed?
The box it came in is also for sale. Nice to know that there's something in my price range, even if it's an empty box.
did you know that art&antiques have a better ROI than your average stock? maybe start investing in vintage bike stuff....
My Red Mercedes is not a car, it's an investment (albeit one that I can enjoy) and I can document a 10% annual increase in value:D ...someday, I might even sell it:(
In the ebay world, for an item like this to have 2900+ views and to already have 28 bids with 2 days left...that's pretty phenomenal!
Then again my partner is a power seller on e-bay and we occasionally see someone who deliberately jack up the price to ruin the auction. like one time someone had raised a price of 20 or so odd pieces of 6x6 fabric to $200US. The person never paid and she had to file a complaint. The perp was taken off e-bay.
So can this campy part suffering from same malicious attack. Its not that old per se... and its not even a great component. so why??
Maybe I don't understand.
