Monday Aug 20 rides
Did two short commute rides today. First the usual work route to the office and back, then after dinner to choir practice downtown and back. Had to "crosstrain" on the way home from choir practice, tho. Forgot that it's not midsummer now. It actually gets dark, and I forgot to bring a bike light. Good excuse, tho. I'd have had to crosstrain most of the climb anyway. No way I can bike up 20% grades. Yet. If ever.
Other special events of the day: SarahLou is staying here until the flat she's found is available. Today she went mountainbiking in the hills across town; came home with a liter of blueberries. She also stopped at the fish market and then made dinner for us -- rosefish filets broiled with olive oil and herbs, tomato and olive sauce, lightly cooked green beans, potatoes and carrots. :p And while she was getting dinner on the table, I baked a chocolate cake for her birthday tomorrow. :p

Today was another 27 mile perfect bike day. I saw a doe and fawn cross the road in front of me so I started singing so I wouldn't be surprised by any of their friends. They were still on the shoulder of the road when I passed by and were watching me like they thought I was crazy.

23.5 miles after replacing my rear tire. What a pain in the rear! The days are getting shorted and our night rides are being scaled back from 30 miles. :(
-
21.0 miles - bad cross wind! That's my "long" ride. Thought about shortening it due to getting blown around the road, but really wanted the ride (I'm slowly working up to 30).
Yeah Duck, the shorter days are really bumming me out, especially combined with the fact that here in South Texas (same in central tx too, I know), the temps are actually rising rather than starting to go down! Just complaining....I guess I better toughen up 'cause it won't get better until at least October:(
Cosc, I haven't seen any deer, but the cows sometimes look at me like that!

I finally got back on the bike too after two weeks of a nasty chest cold. Felt better than I had expected. Did my 20mile half-way-home-from-work ride and didn't even wheeze up the big hill. My computer wasn't working, but it felt fast and I did it in 1 hour 20 minutes. The weather could have been better though. 99% humidity for most of it and strong headwinds. 100% humidity the last 15 minutes, but not heavy rain so I didn't get too wet or cold.
