I'll let him Rep McHenry speak for himself because I am just blown away by this attitude.

Wow! I am glad this sarcastic guy does not represent my state--who elected this guy? Look at some of the other you tube clips he is on---what a piece of work!

Lesseeeee, um.... yeah. 1 million to help get bike-able infrastructure. A teeny weeny drop in the budget bucket.
Move that dude to someplace where folks use bikes for transportation, and see how he courts the voters in that district *then*!:D
Jeeze.
I'm glad he doesn't represent my state either. What an embarrassment.
And his alternative usage of this money is ... wait a minute, wait a minute ... "use clean coal technology". Nope. I'm not making this up.
What CR@P!!!
Shocking. Simple minds can not always see the elegance of simple solutions.
Hugs and butterflies,
~T~
And more money for nuclear power ..... looks like he could use a little time on a bike too.
Red or blue I think we can agree we are in a climate and economic crisis. And small actions can do a world of good. I read somewhere that if everyone in the US simply inflated tires to the right pressure it would save more oil than we'd ever get out of the Arctic. Don't even have to stop driving, inflate your tires.
I suppose he'd object to that too, doesn't help a lobbyist.
I so enjoy watching Barney Frank wipe the floor with him on knowledge of procedure.
I have never heard such a stupid thing....
I am happy to live in the "People's Republic" of Massachusetts.
OMG! What an azz.
How painful and stupid...
On the other hand, I got my latest copy of "The Maine Cyclist",( the voice piece of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine), and on the front cover is the headline, "Maine's New Biking Laws Among the Country's Best". The new laws go into effect in September and I hope the hell that the educate the DRIVING public about then; we, the cycling public already know....:D .
Anyway, it's nice to live in a state where they encourage cycling as transportation.

An email from the League of American Bicyclists:
Transportation Secretary Mary Peters talks about infrastructure problems and travel initiatives.
Peters cited "bicycle paths" as a prime example of the waste
Last night on the PBS NewsHour with Jim Leher, DOT Secretary Mary Peters was interviewed by Gwen Ifill.
Peters, when asked about a possible gas tax increase, repeated President Bush's response - No, there can be no tax increase because Congress is wasting the money they already get. Peters cited "bicycle paths" as a prime example of the waste because bicycles are not a transportation use of the gas tax money.
It is disappointing that the administration is attacking Jim Oberstar for his efforts to get the Minneapolis bridge repaired along with raising all the funding for transportation maintenance, by using Oberstar's support for bicycles as a weapon.
The League of American Bicyclists feels strongly that this should not go without a response and we have sent a letter to Secretary Peters voicing our view. Click here to view our response.
For those of you who feel strongly about bicycling issues, we would also urge you to contact the Secretary to share your personal viewpoints.
Doesn't it just frustrate you? I'm going to send something out to both Peters and McHenry.
A bunch of NC cyclists should show up at his next speaking engagement.
I just read about Transportation Secretary Mary Peters' statements...how infuriating...

Please email the DOT and express your opinion!
I live in NC - and I knew nothing about this guy, so I figured he wasn't from my area. He's not...but he is from the area in which I'll be BIKING over labor day weekend. I may just swing by one of his offices and drop off a letter telling him how I feel about his attitude toward the bike!
Man, is he an idiot or what?
Edited to add: I just realized that I'm pretty sure I'm in his district in this photo!
