Gel Gloves
My current gloves are getting ready to give out. I really like them, but they need to be retired. The problem is, they don't make them anymore. Pearl Izumi has gone to "gel" gloves now, and it seems like everyone has. I've never worn a pair of gel padded gloves, but the pads seem so thick that I would think your hands would just role over the pads.
Does anyone use gel padded gloves? Is there a difference in the feel, are they comfortable? Do I even have a choice?

I use the Performance brand gel gloves. They aren't too thick and they fit me very well.
The roads around here are CRUMMY. I think the gel helps to smooth things out quite a bit. The one time that I forgot to bring gloves I noticed a big difference in my comfort during the ride.
The nicest thing about the Performance brand is that they go on sale frequently. So you're not out huge money if you don't like them. And they're good about returns.

My LBS has quite a few non-gel gloves.
Specialized makes a gel and a regular in their Body Geometry gloves. I have a pair of each.
The gel costs a lot more, but I find I'm wearing them more often than the regular. It's my first pair of gel gloves and I thought they seemed a little bulky at first, so I'm a little surprised I like them so much.
They feel quite nice on the bars.

I wear louis garneau gel gloves and I love them. Each pair has lasted me about a year(I am on my 3rd pair now). My hands never hurt, and the gel does flatten out some after a little use.

Terry T gloves have very little gel or padding. I can't stand the gel; my hands go entirely numb within minutes if i wear anything with gel. I also have a pair of LG gloves that after a couple of washings are perfect.
