pain in front of ankle?

I noticed yesterday after a 11 mile ride a little twinging going on in the front of my left ankle, right where it meets the foot.

Today we did a 62 mile ride and my right foot started up, and it started to get pretty nasty throoughout the day. I noticed when I unclipped and put my foot down in front of the cleat, the pain almost instantly went away..

Did the liner of your shoe bunch up or a lace shift so it's pressing on a tendon?

no, it's definitely not the shoe. no rubbing. no pinching. it feels like it's inside :eek:

had to take Advil before I could sleep.

did I mention it doesn't hurt when i'm going uphill, only on the flats.

Might want to run this by your doc or his/her nurse. Or call Eric.

Yeah, I sense Erik will be involved. I hate to do too much more to this bike, since I'm getting a new one in a short time. I hope it's muscular, and not tendons. I'm afraid there aren't many muscles in there.

Well friend, The weakness, and pain in your foot could both be cause by a nerve root problem. "Sharp pain" is usually a sign of a nerve being compresses/irritated the outside part of your foot is the S1 nerve. this nerve also controls the Peroneous Longus and Brevis on the outside of the foot they control your foot moving to the outside. Also if you have problems walking on your toes because of the weakness this is also a sign of an S1 nerve problem. I recommend seeing a chiropractor for this as they have the most experience with nerve root problems because they deal with the spine.

odd but I've been going through the same thing. I am also going through orthotics adjustment so we can't figure out what it is. My PT (not Eric but the running one) wants me to chart when it hurts. Going upstairs/downstairs is bad and the flats on the bike is bad. It's only one foot and it's my dominate one.

The PT did say my ankle was tight and she did a lot of moving it around. It hurt to the touch only in certain spots and it sometimes hurt when she moved it but not all the time. Anyway today (the day after) it feels much better. It will be interesting to see if it's the bike or if it was the orthotics. She changed the orthotics a bit.

I guess that isn't much help. Chart it though like where it hurts and what you were doing when it hurt, that way the PT can narrow it down unless it's something obvious.

Does it hurt for you to lift your toes or walk on your heels? What about going up and down (like doing calf raises)?

You could try to massage your tibialis anterior muscle (the one on the front of the calf that flexes when you raise your toes). If the tendons at the bottom of the extensor tendons are strained, sometimes you can alleviate that by loosening up the muscle.

I went to EriK Moen and got all adjusted to my new bike. I haven't had that pain but i haven't done more than 20 miles yet...
this weekend will be a good test.
