Choosing a new bike

I have a friend who is a beginner bicyclist. She bought a Giant cross bike to get herself started, but quickly found out that she loved riding!
Now she wants to buy a road bike. She is researching Craig's list to see what is available. She found a Trek 2300 WSD for 1000.00. (2002) It looks like it is in great shape. She also found a Pinarello Galileo (2006) for 1495.00.
Any advice?
I have a Trek 1600 I bought as my first bike and loved it, but after about 7000 miles I upgraded to a Specialized Ruby...absolutely LOVE it.
I do know Trek's but have no background on the Pinarello's
