Ok, forgive me if someone already started today's ride thread, but I couldn't find it.

Did a little 9 mile down-to-the-water-and-back ride on my Waterford with my new Brooks B67. Yup, new Brooks leather is stiffer than old Brooks leather, but that marvellous Brooks fit is right there!

Gorgeous weather this morning, not too many people out yet. A few sailboats, and you can see two ferries out there and almost see the Olympics. (my priority was the foreground in this pic... hee hee!)

Uneventful 43 miles. Beautiful sunrise, low humidity, started out with the bright full moon. Nice and chilly, in the mid-60s. Wore my beautiful new Velo Girls Jersey (thanks, Lorri---I love it!) and rode my beautiful Eclipse.

Saturday's ride was interesting. There was a big wreck on Rte. 66, which abuts the trial I ride. Over the jersey wall, flashing lights of fire trucks & police cars. The wreck happened right before I passed by the first time--it was still dark out--the lights of the emergency vehicles made things seem surreal. Then, later, I saw a dead bird in the trail. No visible wounds. Lastly, spotted a "road taco" was on the trail (i.e. dirty disposable diaper).

I joined the club for a 60 mile ride this morning. Boy was it hilly but we traveled through some beautiful countryside. We fought a headwind the first 25 miles. I was really working hard and not making much progress, so demoralizing. When we reached the store stop (30 mile mark) I tossed around the idea of abandoning the ride for I was only 5 miles from home. I knew I could call a friend to meet me at home and take me back to my car. However, I talked myself out of it and climbed back on my bike for finish the ride. I'm glad I did not quit for as the last thrity miles flew by I grew stronger and felt better. By the time we made it back to our cars I had logged 62 miles and had an average speed of 16.2. At the 25 mile mark my average speed was only 15.4 so things did pick up and improve along the way. However, by the time I made it back to my car I was one tired puppy and I shelved the idea of heading over to the next club ride, a 25 mile ride that follows the Ohio River. My legs, lower back and abdomen were all talking to me. I did stop on the way home to treat myself to a large chocolate milkshake - yummy! My sights are now set on the club's century slated for next Saturday.

After yesterday's 35-mile ride of rollers, climbs, and some flat sections in Park City, DH and I decided to tackle Mill Creek Canyon today. It is neither the easiest nor the hardest canyon to ride in the area. The canyon road climbs about 2650 feet in about 9.5 miles and my guidebook lists the ride as "strenuous." :eek: The total ride was around 24-25 miles and we climbed some additional hills to and from the canyon. I don't have specifics because my bike computer tried to leap to its death during last weekend's ride with BikerHen on the Centennial Trail and I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed yet. High temps today will near 100, so we got out early. I definitely had to go to my happy place during parts of the climb. I told myself that I could stop and rest at any time, but I didn't stop until we reached the top -- somewhere around 7750' in altitude. :D

First ride back after ALC6 and if felt great! Only did a quick 15 mile loop, but definitely wished I could have done more. Unfortunately the PhD has to take priority for the next few months now that AlC6 is over. But I had a very nice sprint out on the country lanes in sunny warm and very windy weather.

after doing over 50 miles yesterday; i looked forward to a slow, easy
ride today with the TE gals, led by our self-proclaimed slow rider, East Hill.
Well, don't let her fool you. We had to hold her back. This pint sized dynamo on a campy-equipped ORANGE rodriguez was a great ride leader and led us up and down hills, warning us all the way of what lay ahead.
we rode between 31 and 34 miles depending who's counting. Sue and I rode an extra hill because no one else descended so we had to go back up to see what was the matter (her daughter had a flat)

It was gorgeous and East Hill knew some fun roads, trails and a 10% grade stuck in there to keep us working

I did about 30 mies. Tried to stay form climbs due to the temps (it's 98 as I type this) enjoyed the date
I had seen that the City of Rancho Cucamonga was building a new bike path , so I took a brief ride on it. It's only open for two miles:

We did a 28 mile version of one of our regular loops, with a bit of a different piece in the middle. Although it was 70 out, it's breezy and clouds were forming. I felt chilled for the first 5 miles, but then warmed up.
A very pleasant ride, with hardly any cars because most people seem to be away. I notice that I have slipped in the BJ rankings, since I didn't ride this week, except for an errand and a short mtb ride. Well, time to get back in the saddle.

ZenC and I had a terrific ride on the C&O Canal towpath today, from Point of Rocks, Md, to Harper's Ferry, WV, for a total of 25 miles. The weather was absolutely perfect, which meant that the towpath and Harper's Ferry were both packed with people, though we did manage a few miles at a time here and there without seeing more than a couple of people. I spotted a doe nursing two fawns at the edge of the towpath, but they unfortunately ran off before Zen had a chance to see them. And the river was gorgeous-- We talked about trying to fit some towels somewhere on our bikes, so we can stop to do some wading next time.

Great weather and scenery, a little history, a little ice cream, and a good riding buddy to make the crowds more bearable... That's my idea of a great ride :D

Warm and muggy (humidity 90% :eek: ), and a gentle breeze this morning. Rode my bike the 4 miles on surface streets, then up on the Mississippi River levee upstream to the end of the paved bike path and back for a total of 28.7 miles. Passed two historic plantations, Ormand and Desterhan; 2 graineries - smells like beer!; the St.Rose oil tank farm. One of these days I'll remember to take my camera. On this part of the levee it's a bit of fun as you ride down off the levee to go under pipelines, some nifty twists and turns in the path, then back up. And in another part over the top of 5 different pipelines - itty bitty hills. I had to coast, pedal slowly under one of the graineries as they were off loading onto a ship and there was grain-dust blowing - I'm a "mouth breather" and I figured sucking down the grain-dust directly into my lungs wasn't a "good thing." So I pedalled slowly to facilitate breathing through my nose and let those internal filters do their thing. Still coughed up crud...

Then I came home and had the hair-brained idea to mow my lawn... well, it needed it. But the hot and muggies seriously set in and I gave myself heat exhaustion, despite all the water and gatorade I drank.

Now it's 6 pm and I feel almost human. But not enough energy to take my dog for a walk. Walking down the short hall from the bedroom to the kitchen is enough. Thank goodness for leftovers in the refrig.

DH and I did the shop ride.
It was kind of funny doing this ride right on the heels of the N2 ride. I was riding along, and I'd get passed (of course!) by these guys who were on yesterday's ride. "Hey, Regina!" they'd say. "Good to see you again!" All these guys -- I felt like part of the group. It was like that scene in Dances With Wolves, when Kevin Costner's character found the buffalo (Tatonka!). The whole tribe heads off after the herd, and the three kids who had been hassling Costner, trying to steal his horse, come riding up "Hey...Tatonka!" Like, now he's accepted and can hang with the cool kids. I was hanging with the cool kids!
So, the combination of that high, and the fact that Mike (shop owner) wasn't there to keep the hammerheads in check, and I must have boogied right along, because I ended up with 36.75 miles at an average speed of 18.2! I haven't ridden that fast in about 5 years! It's usually "Another year older, another year slower" but geez. It was great!

25 mile ride, first 18 with dh. Headed to Concord Center and back, then veered off onto Pelham Island Rd. and back down Stonebridge. Calibrated computer against GPS. Looks like my 26" and 650 wheels have almost the same outside tire diameter.

I was on a completely different ride than Tam; I was riding singletrack through the woods, dodging rocks, jumping logs, and skirting around deadfalls.
OK, so it was gravel, sticks, and metal vehicle barriers.
Twenty five miles on a hard-tail is a very different ride than my road bike:eek:
