Where do you keep your bike?

I was reading the thread about the cost of bikes, components and the fact that we name our beloved rides, which leaves me to ask the question - where do you keep your bike?

In the garage? In the house? In your car? In your bedroom?

I keep mine in the back of my mini van. Yes, the once cursed mini-van that I absolutely positively was NOT going to own, is now the courier of my ride. Of course the bike carrier that I *had to have* sits in the garage gathering dust, with husband shaking head as to why we needed it when the bike rests between the seats all dry, dust free in "the van"!;) Along with my bike clothes, pump, and basket of misc stuff - extra gloves, helmet, shoes, flip flops, Accelerade, tubes, first aid kit, power bars, water bottles........and more!

I don't want my baby to get wet, dusty or dirty and it (and my stuff) is with me whenever I'm ready to ride!

Anyone else?......

I'm really fortunate and have lots of storage space, including one two car garage and one three bay shed. So, my husband keeps his car in the shed, and I keep my truck (with permanantly attached bike rack) in the garage. Then there's room for the three bikes. My cousin built some very nice racks for them to rest on (under handelbars and seat), plus made shelves above to keep helmets and gloves and pumps and things. So they stay dry and relatively clean, plus I can easily wash and lube them.

Living in New England, we get more cold weather than warm. The winters are far too cold for me to ride outside. At any rate, we, as do many here, have an enclosed front porch.

I installed one of those floor to ceiling tension bike racks. My beautiful Epesi is on top, my roomies new Trek Navigator on bottom. The porch is the main entrance to the house so it is very secure. Plus we have 3 dogs that always let us know when someone comes in.

As for transport... I drive a Jeep Wrangler, thus I have a spare tire rack on it. Epesi get wet when we travel, but it's my only option right now. Am actually looking at new cars with inside bike transport in mind. Was gonna get a Jeep Liberty, but the Honda Element (butt-ugly on the outside IMHO) is equipped so cool on the interior that I may not be able to resist.

My hybrid and hubby's MTB reside in the garage. Our four road bikes used to hang out in the dining room, but since our toddler moved to her big girl room, they now live in the nursery. What better place for our other babies to live!

Mine reside their road months in the dining room and or living room. I figure I'm already stepping around two dogs and two cats. In the winter months, they hibernate to the third floor and the trainer. The Aegis travels on top of a CR-V. The bikes can get strapped down inside with the front wheel off if you are creative. We've put one road and one MTN bike inside that way. However, it is usually carrying the dogs. It's a lot cuter than the Element, too. :D

I've got two in my dining room, and one that moves from the living room to the dining room - depends on how often I want to look and admire her! My two dogs are terrified of them, which is funny cause the dogs are huge, yet they whimper away whenever I move them.

Doesn't everyone keep them in the dining room? Isn't that what that room is for? Nobody actually dines in there, do they???

Five bikes stay in the garage (dry, warm, locked and alarmed). My road bike (always clean) lives in the living room. I'm not playing favorites, the roadie is just clean and dry and most of the others get dirty or muddy. I'm a mountain biker first, and more recently started road riding. It still surprises me how clean road riding is (I don't ride in the rain).

I have a florida room. What it really is, is an addition with large windows and no heat!!! All of our bikes hang on bike hooks along one wall. I am hoping Santa will bring me a repair stand for that room as well.

The garage. We have 5 bikes in the family, and it's taken some work to find room for two cars in there. I lock my mountain bike to the garage door frame, as we had two bikes stolen from the garage a few years back. Never figured out how they got in, but maybe they got lucky with a remote. I should lock the road bike too, but it's tucked way in back by the trash cans, so hopefully it won't attract much attention.

road bike is on a rack in the dining room-locked to the rack, mountain bike on the cycleops in the living room with a good view of the Olympics. Have a Olds Olero with a spoiler so a Yakima rack on the back but seriously considering a roof rack.

Garage. I've been hinting that it would be nice to build a bike-workshop
attachment to the garage (where there's already the buildout for a back door),
but logistically it doesn't look possible =/

thought my husband was crazy to insist on a three-car garage, but now I'd
trade more garage for less house!

Ha, Ha , Ha...got to love the big sissy dogs.... One of mine is a very lean 100 lbs (still to fill out). He's afraid of the "glug" the water jug makes. Got it for him because he thought his water pail was a mini swimming pool for those hot days. He's not terrified of the bikes, but he regard them with deep respect.

Hey, about folks who live in *apartments*?

Fortunately, ours is big. I keep my bike in the hallway inside our apartment entrance. We have entrances on two floors and I use the lower floor door only for coming/going with my bike!

We are planning to do some work in the apartment and I am trying to figure out how to store 4 bikes (my current bike, my partner's current bike, my eventual road bike, my eventual commuter bike). Hmmm. Fortunately the contractor is a cyclist so I'm hoping he'll have some ideas. The ceilings are high so I'm think about one of those hoist-gizmos.

I may have the option of keeping my eventual commuter bike in the basement, though I suspect that might make me less likely to use it.

Not today's problem, as today I have only one bike. But I love it!

Two of my bikes (Aegis, Bike Friday) live in our garage as do two of my husbands (Trek, Bike Friday) Our third-string bikes (my Terry, which I ride on the trainer in the winter, and my husband's MTB) live in our garden shed. We are lucky to have as much storage space as we do. When we have to drive the bikes places, two of 'em fit upright in the back of our Honda Element, aka The Bikemobile.
