Cerebral flatulation...
otherwise known as a brain fart! Anyway, on the way home from some errands earlier, I noticed that my rear tire wasn't feeling right and was sounding funny to boot. So I pulled into the nearest parking lot and sure enough, it was flat. Wonderful. I got out my repair kit, laid the bike down and took off the wheel, then got the tube out and had no trouble finding the puncture. I also had no trouble finding the cause of the flat; there was a little short nail stuck in the tire! I patched up the tube, put the whole thing back together and pumped up the tire. Then I had the WORST time getting the wheel back on!! And it was odd because last time I had a flat (that one was on the rear too) I had no problem getting the wheel back on. I must have messed around with it for five or ten minutes, getting more and more frustrated and feeling like an idiot because people were walking/driving by and probably seeing the whole fiasco, before I realized what the problem was: I hadn't disconnected the brake when I removed the wheel, so it was getting in the way of putting the wheel on!! Oops. Once I did that, it went back on fine and I continued on my way. What is it with me and brakes? I'm also the one who forgot to reconnect the front brake after putting the wheel back on at the start of a group ride!

Funny! I forgot to disconnect my front brake last weekend while I was trying to get my wheel off to load my bike after a ride...it happens to the best of us. :p

Even cleverer is to forget to re-connect the brakes afterwards!

grinning sheepishly...I've been there done that by the side of the road
In my defense, I was flustered and all discombobulated by the flat. Brain farts are allowed (but still made me cranky that I did something so silly). Glad you figured it out before an angry fit ensued!
