HRM read 229 max??? what????
yup..
Finally got the new Blackburn Delphi 6.0 computer mounted and "calibrated" on my Obera bike. Bit of an ordeal as my drop bar is squashed to make the bar more aerodynamic...
Anyway. took for a short spin today (first ride in about two weeks. busy stressful work plus migrane hanging in for days...)
Interesting stat from the computer.
avg speed :p (sorry too embarassing)
max speed: 38.2 MPH
ride time: 1:38:48
distance: :p time and distance and you can figure out my avg so :p
avg HR: 171
max HR: 229
total climb: 1279ft
It even gave me the grade of my hill climb. 3-6% Wow I didn't think this short ride had that much hill climb.
NOWWW.... what is baffling is my HRM function... When I tried it on the other day, it seemed to be working ok. Buttt the average reading seems to be tad high on today's ride.
6 years ago before my big wreck, I generally kept my heart rate at 80-85% (160bpm-170bpm) and pushing 180bpm for more than a minute would put me in oxygen debt anaerobic state where I would need about 20 minutes to recover.
And today I was running around 170bpm for most of the ride. IN fact the avg reading confirms this. And on the hill climb with 5% grade, my HR bumped to 180-190bpm??? I know I can't hold that kind of rate... So what's going on with my HRM. There were no other riders nearby to interfere with my wireless connection.
My max HR 6 years ago was 204-206 depending on how much sleep I had the day before and how tired I was. And today it registered 229 (don't know what my real max HR today is)?? I thought max HR was supposed to come down with age.
Suggestion as to why the computer gave me a false reading? I know it has to be a false reading. The computer is literally brand spanking new. Got it for xmas of '06. Battery is fresh and not worn out... It hasn't been crashed or jarred violently...
I'll be riding in a group tomorrow. So I'll check my computer again tomorrow. An easy 24 "junk" miler.. ;)
