Tire help

I need knew tires for my road bike. I have a TCr2 Giant. I plan on doing a couple of tri's with this bike, so it will be used for some racing. But mostly I do group rides and some touring.

I'm in the process of learning more about my bike and all its wonderful parts. So right now, I don't know anything about tires and which ones I should get. DH said something about getting folded and not wired . . . not sure what that means. Anyways, TE ladies always have an opinion and I want it. What tires should I get for my road bike?

I got Flossie a pair of Vittoria Randonneurs.... but I don't think that's the kind of tires you're thinking of! ;) (but she looks very pretty in them, and she says "Hi!")

Those Vittorias came on RaleighdonSon's new bike! they are well thought of by the gang we ride with.

DH said I couldn't get Vittoria's because they are too expensive :(

I think I paid $28 for each. I got the ones with reflective sidewalls, because I do sometimes ride in the dusk. The ones without reflective sidewalls were 2 or 3 bucks cheaper.

The Vittoria's I had looked at were $60 a piece. That must have been different than your's, Knotted.

REI has Randonneur Cross tires, which aren't the same as mine (lower psi).

I'm very happy with my Randonneurs.

I'm a big fan of Vittoria Rubino Pros. Can't speak to how they'd be as a racing tire, but I think they make a good training tire. Comfortable but durable. For good prices, check out probikekit.com. It's a UK company, but I've gotten some really good deals there, and I usually get them rather quickly.

I like my Michelin Pro2 Race tires.

Don't race, so can't help with a tire selection there. However, for a good training tire I would recommend Maxxis Detonators - I have found them very durable and reliable and I ride on rough rural roads, so they get a pretty good workout (as do I :p )

They are also not very expensive

Racing tires are usually expensive... Adding "racing" to any item usually makes it more expensive (often because it's suppoed to be lighter and more reliable).

My club is sponsored by Schwalbe and we get their Stelvio racing tires for less than what they sell for in stores. I haven't had them for long but so far I like them... Even at regular price, I think they are a little less expensive than the Vittoria Rubino Pro and the Michelin Tires, too.
