DIY Cycling Skirt

As I was checking out catalogs it occurred to me that some of the skirts are coverups, not skorts with padding. Such a thing should be relatively simple to make, and as expensive as cycling clothes are, maybe a good place to save some money to be spent on other stuff!

So -- here's my question. What kind of fabric would you suggest? (I don't sew but my mom does and I think I could probably convince her to make me one.) I'm assuming just fasten with velcro, and it should be "stuffable" so you can stuff it in a saddlebag and pull out if you're going inside a place you'd prefer not to wear spandex?

I was thinking the same thing looking at the Terry website last night. A wrap skirt would be quick, I just have to figure out what kind of fabric. Any ideas from people who have them would be great!

The Terry skirts are made from sanded supplex. No need to line.

It is a wrap skirt. Velco for the attachment on the inside wrapped side and a Fastex bucket on the other with webbing to attach the buckle to the skirt and provide adjustability. The newer ones have a small key pocket with a Velcro closure.

I have seen other skirts made from heavy Lycra but I don't think it would be very packable.

Important point for comfort - there is a very stretchy V-shaped gusset in the back of the Hollywood-style waistband. You can probably see this in pictures of the lighter colored skirts. The waistband will then fit nicely standing up, but will stretch when you're bent over the bike.

What SK said:p The Go Girl is a pull on skirt also unlined and I'm guessing suplex or a poly blend.

If you're still intereseted, the go girl one is 100% poly.
