a night at the opera!
okay, really, an afternoon.
I couldn't ride today, and we were going to the opera. DH rode in the morning while I did chores and tried out that Volpe (more about that later). My helmet was in his car so I couldn't go for a ride on my own bike.
So when I got home from all the chores I asked if we could go to the opera on our bikes..
And he made all kinds of faces . Oh, come on, honey, it's family night!
So we did.
We rode 9 miles there and walked in with all the men in their fancy suits
and the ladies in their evening wear. I wore my finest red italian jersey (Castelli)
and my outfit (actually) was at least as expensive as many of my fellow opera goers with my Ibex wool knickers and my smartwool striped sox.
We checked our helmets at the coat check .
There was a football game (Seahawks) at the same time as the opera so we not only beat the opera traffic, but we sailed through the football mess too.
Great date!

No fair going to the opera on bikes and not posting pictures!!! :D
-
Cool! sounds like a lovely date!
and your evening wear sounds good to me!
-
I think your evening wear was perfectly practical and perfectly fancy.:D
Of course this coming from a fellow cyclist, and not the opera type.
-
ok, you get to be the coolest!
That is just the most audacious and rockin' act I heard tell of all day!
-
-
sorry, no pictures. Didn't have time. Besides, cameras are NOT ALLOWED in the opera.
and can you believe it, there was no bike rack in front of the opera house?
(But we still "parked" closer to the event than anyone in a car!)
-
Where were you able to park your bikes safely???
-
there was a railing (that went down below street level)
right in the foyer of the opera..kind of a parklike area. Locked our bikes to that with a latte lock and a big stout one too. It was 20 feet from the opera entrance.

this is a great idea. i suggested once that i meet my partner at the opera after a long bike ride but she didn't seem enthusiastic. perhaps cycling there and back would be more appealing to her.
ps we went (from nyc) to see Tristan at the seattle opera in 97 (?). it was great.

the italian girl from Algiers. It was great. She made a fool of 2 different men.
It was excellent and funny.
I like comic opera the best.
-
That's a great story! I really wish there were pictures, too!

YOu will just have to use your imaginations. I had to hold my head up and act like i was in a fancy gown... :p
