So I test rode a few bikes, various sized of the Ruby and Amira (between sizes), the Ridley Liz, one I forgot the name of because I hated it right away, and then one with SRAM components to get a feel for them (did not like them at all!). I loved the Amira SL4 Expert but sadly it was out of my price range and really surprising, the guy helping me said they are sold out almost everywhere. Because he was so honest and helpful for the 3 hours I was there, I tend to want to believe him. He even called Specialized and while they could get me the S Works frame with a swapped out fork for $2200, they just didn't have what I wanted. So...I googled it when I got home and found a '13 Amira SL4 Expert for $2175 including shipping here. Of course I'm wondering why it's that cheap, and yet still trying to convince myself not to whip out my credit card right now.

I hate the thought of not buying there when the guy was so awesome and helpful and spent so much time with me, but I don't want to wait until the end of the summer for the new models, and honestly, I can't really even afford it at the MSRP anyways. What to do?

What a fun bike! It is a mid-2000s model, or so I can tell, and it has front shocks, 24 speeds of fun, and is a unique green. It came with a rack, fenders, computer, and compass/bell, but I have a replacement bell from etsy on order that I will post a pic of when it arrives. It will have Grumpy Cat and have the saying "They see me rollin, I hate them," which I saw floating around on FB recently and continues to crack me up. The icky Electra seat immediately came off (and when I say icky, it was actually falling apart) and I replaced it and the seatpost with the Brooks B67 I had and the better seatpost from the Trek Pure Lowstep I had. I also had my MKS Lambda ("grip king") pedals put on to replace the original Electra pedals. Oh yeah, had the LBS add a mirror, too.

It will be a little sad to sell my Trek Pure Lowstep....if they had a way to add gears I would have done it. Or, if Trek still made the 21 spd (they don't) I would have purchased that instead. Someone will be getting a nice barely-used but well loved bike. The Electra is just a ton of fun and I really love having more gears. It also shifts so much more easily, and that is really awesome.

My step son recently got a new-to-him Giant mountain bike from our LBS. This is his first bike with gears (think it is 18 spd) and handbrakes. He and my husband went to buy him a helmet as his old one was too small - and ended up with the bike, too. So guess who wanted to bike ride with me last night? I told him I wanted him to learn his bike better, and for me to get acclimated on mine, before we do so and he understood. However, we can't find that brand spanking new helmet he just got. UGH on the money spent and seemingly gone - but maybe good for me. Right now he is going to use mine, and it will likely mean that I get a new one, which could be good because my current helmet gives me a hell of a headache.
