I am not sure if i should post this here or in the commuting section...

Anywho, here is my question for you.

I want to work on my biking for tri's etc and start commuting next week if we get ze keys to our new house this week.

My commute is 30km each way. ( i could shorten it & do the 22km route) It's not super hilly but it's a good ride with a headwind & sidewind. If I do this 3x's a week (doesn't include weekend mtn biking) plus a run & swim am I still doing enough training?

Does anyone else do a longish commute? Do you bike in and then do a run after? I was planning on leaving early, biking into the cbd & then possibly doing a 5km run afterwards.

Just some thoughts I want to throw out there and see what responses you gals will giveth meeee..

Thanks
c:)

Depending on my route my commute is either 12 miles or 16 miles, so a little shorter than your 30km but close enough I suppose. I normally take the 12 mile route because I'm always doing too much in the morning and leave too late to take the 16 :) I commute 3-4 days a week, depending. What I decided to do on the commute was to ride in a bigger gear than I've trained in all season. I rode in the small ring all summer, and now have shifted to the big ring. I also try not to shift out of it if possible. It's a comfortable gear so I'm not killing my knees, but it works my legs more. On my way home, I'll try to hammer more. I don't have a shower at school, so hammering in isn't a good thing. Though Friday I had to because I left really late. This is my current training schedule for the aquabike I'm doing in November, at least for the bike. On the weekend is when I do the swim and bike, though I'm going to try to add at least one morning where I swim, then bike into school.

I have no idea how informative that was, but that's what I'm doing. I'm not an experienced tri person though :)

Hey, CC, first off, congrats on the new digs! :D

My commute is very short, just 3 miles. Still, it is riding. It's not training, though! That I do on days off. I try to ride at least 15 miles, preferrably closer to 30, since an Oly tri is 26 miles. Is it feasible for you to leave early enough to ride then run, then work?

What distance tri are you doing next?

Thanks ladies for replying.

My goals are as follows:

1-Raise my average speed by 2km/hr to 25km/hr. I'm a slug at the moment and want to do 30km in 1hr. Beta, perhaps your idea of going into the big ring may work for the rides home. My commute is preparation for mtn biking on the weekend.

2-I am looking at doing 4-5 tri's as I think that's my limit. One is an off road tri and am v interested in doing it!!!
I am frightened of waves & feel i should only do enticer/sprint tri's.

3-Lise, i'd love to do a ride into work and then go for a run. I'll keep it in mind and work towards it.
