I got a call yesterday, "Hi this is Derek from Trek Bikes in Waterloo, Wisconsin... and I'm happy to tell you we selected the design you submitted for the Fuel EX Project One design contest... Get yourself fitted and we'll send you a frame with your design in about six weeks..."
I can not believe it. Pinch me.

Yes. "Project One" is Trek's custom paint option. You can choose from a palette of designs and colors. This design will be available for 2007 bikes. It will probably be available for the Madone road bike too.

DH showed me this pic the other night, though it's a different color. Someone posted it on RBR. I think it's totally cool how the seat tube is like the trunk and the branch comes right out of it. Great job!

I can't believe it! I saw that contest on the Trek website not long ago and thought how cool it would be to design a bike, but the contest had just ended so I was too late. I am SO psyched for you. And that is one sweet design, I must say! I see a new career possibility for you ...
Wow, is that beautiful. Congratulations. If I ever see one on the street, I'll tell the owner I know the designer! :D
(Trying to imagine how I could justify owning a third bike "because it's so pretty"...:p )

Lise "What do the Japanese characters say in English?"
I think it says "your bike sucks" like on the chainguard on Biachi Muss (as if I needed a reason to get another bike). ;)

It means "Passion".
I found out something interesting about Chinese characters because I was going for the Japanese/ cherry or pear blossom theme. The Japanese did not have a written language so Japanese characters are basically the same as you will find in Chinese. I never knew that.
Also, for you budding designers: Trek does this every year, so there's always next year...
One thing Derek said was very important was that the design needed to be easy to reproduce in production and I met that criteria. When I did the design I thought about when I used to airbrush and how I would go about masking and such. I guess that extra consideration helped.:)

Sweeeeeet!!!
Very nicely done!
Understated, not over-the-top.
Feminine, but not cloying.
Classy.
A breath of fresh air from the Disco boy-racer paint jobs at Trek.
Can't wait to see one in the flesh, so to speak.
Congratulations!

That's so cool, congratulations! Your design is awesome, I like the different color combination choices. It's really subtle, and feminine without being too girly (even in pink!).

I'm very happy for you! The design is wonderful, hope I get to see it on the road someday.
OK, now I'm thinking how pretty it would look next to the Green Hornet. Celeste and pink, a lovely combination! Perhaps you could ask TE to develop a matching set of jerseys for the bikes. Wouldn't that be beautiful? Then I could ride my beautiful Bianchi with your design on my jersey! :p

What a beautiful design! Congrats!
I thought the bike would match this jersey (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/i/24988-71,24988,True_Cannondale-Dragonfly-Cycling-Jersey-Short-Sleeve-For-Women.html?name=LIGHT+BLUE+BAMBOO+%2f+DRAGON+FLY+PRINT&product=Cannondale+Dragonfly+Cycling+Jersey+-+Short+Sleeve+(For+Women)&isDefaultDept=True) I recently purchased.

Good going! Have you decided what color combo you'll get?
fatbottomedgurl
09-09-2006, 12:54 PM
I am thinking Blue on the bottom with Red flowers because that would look really cool with the Fox fork I will put on her. I just bought a used Giant Trance 1 so I will swap out all the components to the new bike. The Trance is a beautiful blue color and I really like it. But I like the pink too... If I could find a pink shock... or have my shock painted...

I downloaded a file of the black line drawing, brought it into Adobe Illustrator, and did the work on the computer. (I'm a graphic designer by trade).

I believe she said it is an annual contest. Is it always about designing a female design, or open to anything?

Absolutely beautiful work! The LBS that I'm loyal to is trying to get permission to sell Trek's in his store. I think I'll start saving now for a bike with your design on it. :)

Just think of how it's going to feel when you go riding and see someone else riding one of those bikes. You can tell them YOU DESIGNED IT!!!!!

WOW - what an incredibly beautiful bike - especially for a mountain bike. I'm not a fan of pink on bikes but this one works.
I'm assuming Trek now owes the rights to use your design on their bikes. I'll start watching for all the Fatbottomedgurl bikes. I'm sure this will be truly popular design. And you get the first one - CONGRATS!!!!

ditto on not being a fan of pink ROAD bikes at all... but i lust after a pink mountain bike... something about getting dirty but riding pink!!!! i keep going back and looking at that design! now if i were just independently weathly.... i'd buy one!!!!
fatbottomedgurl
09-11-2006, 01:28 PM
Well I'm not pink girl myself. I ordered my frame today after getting fitted at the LBS. This is the color scheme. I am putting a Fox Fork on her so she will be color coordinated. Girls have to think of these things...
There is no way I could ever afford this!
Now I have to wait six or more agonizing weeks. I already can't sleep.
Thanks for all the compliments! We all have our different gifts. I can't sing or dance.:D

but.... but.... BUT!!! i LOVE The pink in your original post for a MTB!!!!!!!!!!!! *must play lottery so i can buy the pretty pink "dirt" bike!*
so you are getting the pretty blue version? not the pretty pink version?
and i INSIST on pictures IMMEDIATELY upon DELIVERY even before you get her built! PLEASE!!! PROMISE!!!??????

Caligurl, since we are almost neighbors I trust your opinion. I am almost to the point of embracing my femininity and getting it in PINK!!! Arghhh. I have six brothers, you get my drift...???
Maybe I should poll...

lol! well... like i've stated.. i really do NOT like pink road bikes (my own opinion... i know they are very popular! heck.... i ALMOST didn't get my ruby cuz it is ruby red and not black!)... but i just LOVE the idea of a "dirty gurl" with a foo foo pink bike!
i've already called hubby and told him i no longer want JUST a boring ole pink mtb.... i now want a pretty flowery pink bike! lol! and emailed him the pdf of your design so he could see it!!!!
i'm not saying the blue version isn't gorgeous, too... cuz it is!!!! but i LOVE that pink! so gurlie! so feminine! BEA-U-TI-FUL!!!! (i even posted over at BF that i'm lusting after it!)
*sigh*
