I'm not sure anyone has had this issue, if it is a food allergy, but here goes...
I've eaten Clif bars occasionally without a problem. But recently I purchased a whole box and started eating them more regularly. At first, the discomfort was negligible so I ignored it. However, after a week of eating at least one per day, now my stomach seizes up with cramps. This happens within a few minutes of eating one. The cramps go away after a few minutes, and I go out on my rides fine, but I'm left with a "heavy" feeling like I have a rock sitting in my stomach.
The only thing that ever gave me a similar reaction was a few years ago, when I experimented having a Slimfast shake every day for lunch. The only common denominator I could think of is soy protein. But I eat soy all the time... tofu, edamame, no problems.
Oh, one more thing... I tried eating a Clif bar with some organic digestive enzymes. The cramps never came, but the "heavy" feeling persisted. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem?
