This should put a bee in George's bonnet for next year's Tour! Good to know he's still got it in him (though he also still needs to be force-fed a hamburger or two).

Way to go George!
After the fiasco of the Eneco Tour, it's about time he had some luck.

In case anyone hadn't heard about the Eneco Tour last month... George was comfortably leading the GC and was involved in the final stage's sprint finish against main rival Stefan Schumacher. G was on S's wheel into the final turn and would have won the overall title easily had they finished that way.
Then S struck the arm of a fan and abruptly swerved, which caused G to crash with just 50 meters to go. S was able to stay upright and finish, G had to walk his bike across the finish line. Because of the 22-second time bonus for finishing, S vaulted over G in the final GC by ONE second.
The judges let the results stand, saying that S didn't swerve intentionally. NOT a good call, I'll say.

I'm so happy for George. He's been my favorite pro cyclist for several years now. He's had a tough run of it -- so glad he finally got a win! He deserves this!!

It was such a great day for George and his family - they were all there to celebrate with him - very sweet. I was fortunate enough to watch some of the race from Paris Mountain, and then go into Greenville to watch the finish. I also walked two feet behind Eki - who was driving the chase vehicle for Discovery. Wow - talk about fit.

What an experience to be able to see this so close to home. It will be in Greenville for the next two years!!! Greenville is a great place to come spend a weekend if you are interested - the downtown area is very alive and youthful.

I, too, am very happy for *our* George! Greenville (actually Taylors) is my hometown as well. Paris Mountain, and the area are just absolutely beautiful, and the revitalization they've done downtown is amazing! I was there in April, but won't be able to get back until probably November. I'm already trying to figure out how I can get off work next year and make it down for the race!

edited to add... Gowest, what part of Greenville do you live? My Mom lives in the Taylors area.
