I've been noticing a lot of spam here lately in the early hours. I think it's a ridiculous waste of time for the them, us and mostly the administrators since they are the ones that have to take the time to remove it. Do they actually think anyone will click on their links when they are so obnoxious to fill just about every section with one of their ads?

artisan, please do a search on the word spam. It's been all explained before.

Thanks! It just didn't occur to me to do a search using the keyword spam. I usually do use the search option quite frequently.

'ees quite OK. :)

Our fine moderators do a great job of keeping this board spam-free.

Actually, I think a lot of that sort of spam is auto-generated and there's not someone sitting there posting it. I could be wrong, since I am very definitely not a tech-head, but I think that I've heard spammers can write a script that searches the 'net for e-mails (for e-mail spam) and forum addresses (for forum spam), and then automatically sends the spam out. Kind of like the auto-dialed, recorded telephone spam that we all used to get at dinner time before the blessed days of the National Do-Not-Call Registry.

I just bought a package of 6 cans of Spam....mmmm, love that fat and salt and unidentifiable meat by-product.

Fried, even better. Big ol' slab on rice with furikake. Oh, yeah.

Best kind o' "Spam"! :D

Turkey spam is surprisingly good.

But not quite as spammy as the original specially processed american meats.

The lite salt spam is good, too. Sometimes I have a hard time finding it.

Not that I eat a lot of spam, mind you. Just as a treat.

(I also like vienna sausages and smoked fish and such. Mmmm, nitrates!)

Spam reminds me of childhood camping trips. My mother always cooked Spam then. Fried is not too bad, cold is GGRROOSSEE.

DebW--me too! Why is Spam a camping food? I personally don't care for it. The rest of my family (all men) seem to enjoy it. So we affectionally call it "guy food" at my house. (Along with other guy food like vienna sausages, summer sausage, and other processed meats and canned meats and fish). All guy foods seem much too salty for me.

No spam for me! Although I enjoy Monty Python's version.

(Actually I think the camping connection has to do with the military providing spam to the troops--packs well, lasts forever, lots of salt is a good thing for them--hence the carryover to camping)

Monty Python - too funny! :D

Wife: Have you got anything without spam?
Waitress: Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it.
Wife: I don't want ANY spam!
Man: Why can't she have egg bacon spam and sausage?
Wife: THAT'S got spam in it!
Man: Hasn't got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it?
Vikings: Spam spam spam spam (crescendo through next few lines)
Wife: Could you do the egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam then?
Waitress: Eewwww!
Wife: What do you mean 'Eewwww'? I don't like spam!
Vikings: Lovely spam! Wonderful spam!
Waitress: Shut up!
Vikings: Lovely spam! Wonderful spam!
Waitress: Shut up! (Vikings stop) Bloody Vikings! You can't
have egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam.
Wife (shrieks): I don't like spam!
Man: Sshh, dear, don't cause a fuss. I'll have your spam. I love it. I'm having spam spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam spam and spam!

Turkey spam is surprisingly good.

My Hawaiian boyfriend is standing here cursing this blasphemy!

I like fried SPAM too... it makes me all nostalgic for Girl Scout camping trips when I was a kid. Scrambled eggs reconstituted from a powder, griddle cakes, SPAM sliced thin and fried....

Just to bring this back on topic ... The other day (or was it this morning? and is that Alzheimer's setting in?) ... anyways, my point was that I noticed a nasty spam message that had no spam warning symbol in the left-hand field  So now spammers seem to have found a way to dodge the spam warning system  Does that mean that the administrators need to update the system somehow? ALL posts are supposed to have that red triangle symbol in the lower lefthand corner, right? It's for us to alert the administrators if we find anything annoying or offensive, such as spam, or flaming.

Just noticed: We don't get the red triangle on our own posts. So maybe this spammer has found a way of coding his (the poster's nick included a male name) spam as everybody's own ...? Eeeeyuw! That's revolting!

Did the message go away ?

Once in a while I'll hit the spam alert and I'll get a message that the post no longer exists. In the few seconds between the time I saw the post and clicked on the triangle, the message was already deleted. My guess is a similar sort of thing happened in your case.

If the message went away then I wouldn't worry about it.

I've never seen one that didn't have one. If you see another one, you could PM the administrators / moderators.
