View Full Version : Sept 1 Rides
Gee, September already! My usual morning commute had a few odd twists. A deer crossed the road in front of me in Lincoln. I didn't get a good look, but the white tail gave it away. Shortly after that I inhaled a bug and hacked and spit for the next 10 minutes. Ick! When I stopped to shed the arm and knee warmers, I happened to step in sand, and then my right cleat had trouble releasing. After the 2nd stop with a sticky cleat, I took off the shoe and banged it on the curb a few times, and that fixed it. And I didn't even miss the light. Last time this happened (a couple months ago) was in a rainstorm, and splashing in a puddle didn't help much.

I rode 7.4 miles this morning -- utility ride, including post office, a friend's house to drop something off, and the bank.
That was the cool part. I rode through the drive-through. Fun! And no probs at all. Bank teller acted like this was normal.

Nice ride this morning. A big dog started to chase me but a yell ran him off. Almost ran over a rooster. I think he was as surprised to see me as I was him.
I got in a little over 10 miles, getting back just in time to beat the rain.

Good commute this morning - only my second time doing the full 12.8 miles each way (instead of using the park & ride and cutting that in half). It was chilly, so I was especially glad to be wearing my new purchases - a vest and pair of arm warmers!
My mileage racks up much more quickly with 25.6 miles of commuting in a day instead of the usual 13!
It will be considerably warmer on the way home... temperature (of course) combined with a lot of climbing. It's all uphill from here.
Happy weekend to all!

I did my last Friday morning club ride today; school already started, but I had the day off. This ride has just become really fast (for me). My husband came and there was no way I could keep up with him and the leader today. I had some wasabi scallops last night and I woke up at 4 AM feeling pretty bad. I felt like I was a panting animal trying to stay up with the front group, but I kept them in sight. We stopped at an ice cream place for awhile and I was really in a bad mood! And, this ride went right near my house and I was seriously tempted to bail, but after I ate my Clif Bar at the stop I felt better. I did tell them I needed more of a warm up, but it probably fell on deaf ears. But, they are really nice people.
32 miles, 16.3 average
I picked up a riding partner on my way home from work this evening. This guy and I turned onto a street at the same time. He was ahead for a couple miles, then I caught up and he was happy to give me a draft. We swapped places after 3 or 4 miles, swapped again after another 3, then I turned off after 2 more miles. We were doing 21 mph on the flats. Average for the 13 mile commute was 17.0 mph. Hope I run into him again as it gave me a nice speed boost.
