I am so bummed out. Last week my mother died and the only thing I wanted in the world to make myself feel normal all week was just a simple bike ride. But no....RAIN, RAIN, and RAIN. Cleared up for a second, went 5 miles out, and RAIN, got completely sopping wet and came crawling home. Yesterday....more rain, all day long.
Finally today it cleared and the sun peeked out and I jumped on my bike and went for a beautiful bike ride in the country! What a joy. Stopped on Main St in my friendly little small town on the way home to buy some thank you cards for the staff at the nursing home. Carefully locked up my bike, went in for 5 minutes, came out- and one of my gloves was gone.

Now, in this little Mayberry-type town everyone laughs at me when I lock my bike up to go into the stores, mind you. I left my helmet hanging on my handlebars, put one glove in it, and used the other glove to pad the spot where my bike leaned against the metal pole. I guess that's why THAT glove was still there- they only took the one glove that was in my helmet, and apparently didn't see the other glove.
CAN YOU IMAGINE???? What kind of punk dope would take ONE GLOVE anyway??? (Michael Jackson is out of town.) I am so p*ssed!!!! This was my $32 pair of ONE MONTH OLD PI Carbon gloves. :( :( :(
I rode around town sadly for a while, hoping to see some kid with one glove on, but no luck. Now I have only one glove.

Got home and went to TE site to order another pair. As some weird consolation/comfort prize to myself I guess, I wound up ordering a vast array of incredible new biking apparel for the cold weather coming up (my first biking autumn coming up). Spent WAY WAY too much money. But hey, I need some comforting. :o

No more leaving my helmet and gloves on my bike, even here in "Mayberry". I already take my dog pepper spray with me off my bike, but mostly for the safety of little kids who might fool with it on my bike if their parents are not paying attention.
I suppose i should also start bringing my bike tools in with me instead of leaving them buckled in my saddle bag. SO ANNOYING!!!!

If I ever see a kid with one right glove I'm going after him and getting my glove back, you just watch me.

Lisa--I am so sorry about your mother. I'm glad you bought a lot of bike stuff. We need to take our comforts wherever we can find them.

Thanks you guys. And I do believe my mother would be happy to know I will be WARM out in the autumn cold on my bike.

Lisa,
I am sorry about your mom. ((((HUGS))) Having someone take your glove is another bummer. I am pleased you were able to treat yourself to a new autumn wardrobe. This will be my first autumn riding as well. I am so excited.

Well of course your mom will be happy. How many times did she nag you, "Wear your sweater! Don't forget your gloves!"

Oooops.

Um, sorry about your gloves, but I'm delighted you bought your warm wardrobe for cycling. Ride like the wind!

So sorry about your mom. (and your glove)

You did right by shopping. Good choice.

Now, if you see the Michael Jackson Wannabee, try not to hurt him too much.;)

Lisa-

You have my sympathy - both regarding your mother and your glove.

I'm always more upset when something like that happens than the value of the item would warrant - I think I hate to lose my faith in humanity:cool:

Glad you're locking up that purty bike:D :D

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your mother.

My dog loves to snag a glove when she can get to them, I guess because they smell so sweaty and exotic...you know...stinky. And she's pretty nimble, so she could easily pick one out of a helmet. We have resorted to storing ours on shelves up high. Could it have been a thief-dog?

The good news is that gloves are cheaper to replace than bikes, right?

Lisa

So sorry for the loss of your mom. I hope we can help you feel a bit better by our caring.

Maybe some little kid took the glove because they saw you and wanted to emulate you.

Grab some fenders, bright gore-tex, and bright lights because riding in the rain can be a gas. Get a nice cover for the Brooks too.

:( {{{Lisa}}}, so sorry to hear about your mother. The nuisance thievery really sucks too. May your package from TE arrive along with some more perfect bike riding weather. :)

Well that just sucks. I'm so sorry about your mom. And what sicko steals one glove, and one already-worn glove at that? I'm glad you had the wherewithal to resort to a little "retail therapy." Now, for some cool weather so you can enjoy your new stuff.

Lisa,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. I lost my dad last fall, and it still hurts a lot, though the tears don't come so often any more. I just miss him terribly as I know you will miss your mom. The loss of a parent is the toughest thing I've ever had to face, and I wasn't even able to ride for months and months afterwards. I am glad you're not in that boat.

The glove-stealing sucks too -- how ridiculous and petty can someone be?

My condolences on the loss of your mother. We are never ready for these events and they are difficult passages. Of having that well used and reliable pair of gloves broken up is yet another loss, and all the more poignant in the time of your bereavement. My sympathies are extended to you and your family and friends.

You women are the absolute BEST. Thank you all so much for your sweet words, they lift my spirits, and now I am not so upset about the stupid glove anymore either. (at least they didn't take my $50 helmet with it)

My mother was in a long decline of several years, and that gave me time to spend with her and say loving things to her many times- that's the good part.
I feel good about how I managed to help her through these last few years.

Now that she is gone and at peace, I feel blessed to have my health, my loving partner, and the ability to do the things in my life that make life joyful! Most people are not so lucky in this world, by far.
Let's all keep encouraging others to see how wonderful it is to ride a bike and to get healthy!

Thank you all again for your messages.

I so much look forward to riding in the brisk upcoming "Autumn" ;) and I'll report in the "Apparel" section on the yummy TE cold weather clothing I get.

I'm sorry about your mom. I know how you feel about having something stolen! My son, a freshman at college, had his bike stolen the first day of school!!! I am still so mad I can't see straight!!!!!
