Is there a forum where guys can go and get good info, similar to this? (I'm assuming it wouldn't be men only.)
Especially new riders -- a place where they can ask questions without feeling stupid? (I ask, as if A) a guy will ask questions and ever admit he doesn't know the answer and B) would admit he feels stupid.)

Yes, many of us are on this other site as well. They have a great forum section and it is also a place where you can keep track of your rides and mileage. www.bikejournal.com
Membership is free- to support the admin guy (Slantz) you can pay $20. for a year. This gives you more options.

Good. I'm on bikejournal but don't post/read much. Just about any info there was covered better here, at least the stuff I'm interested in. I get good vibes from the place, though, and am glad to know i can recommend it.
What about bikeforums? I looked around there, but again, haven't spent much time exploring.

I read the forums on www.roadbikereview.com
No fee, although in the non-beginner's corner there can be a lot of chest beating and machismo. Generally, if you look beyond that, you can get some good info, and they do treat the beginners well. Plus, there is a touring/commuting forum with lots of cool pictures. Somehow, it seems easier to post pictures on roadbikereview than on TE - consequently, there are a lot of pictures up - but you have to be registered to see them.

Yes, roadbikereview.com put up a Beginners Forum, especially for those starting out. The animals (I use that term with nothing but love) at RBR can be merciless at times; but they behave in Beginners, so newbies feel safe asking questions.

A few of us are over at bikeforums.net too. They have a women's forum that's closed to the general public. Once you're registered there, let me know if you want to have access to it.

Really!!! What's did you do???? Things were pretty tense for a while, and Koffee Brown kept a pretty tight reign on things. She's gone, and it's a bit more relaxed.
I'll see if I can get an email address or some way for everyone to get access there.

my husband has some resentments about the fact that we have an all woman forum and there isn't such a thing for men. I told him there's no rule that a guy can't post here, but he was not mollified. wah wah wah.
i have noticed that on forums where the majority of posters are men there is
an AWFUL lot of chest beating...

Tell him that it took a woman to start it. He can start his own if he wants to.

I've heard men whine about other women's things, like Women's History Month, Women's Studies at my university, etc. Their little myth is that there's no Men's History Month, Men's Studies, etc. Well, hello--until relatively recently in our cultural history (through most of the 20th century at least), almost all studies were men's studies and most of the history taught and celebrated involved what were known as "great men"--great white men, at that--"dead white males."
And if men want to have their own forum, one of them just has to ... start one.:p
But we do have a pretty cool thing going here, and I can see why any guy would be envious.

I asked that these folks:
Melstar
Trek420
Lovemyswift
eofelis
roguedog
are all allowed into the women's forum. It shows up on the main forum list between 'Winter Cycling' and the 'General Cycling Discussions' forums, close to the bottom.
Nice group, but not as chatty as we are here!

Koffee is gone!?! Yay. I basically called her an idiot. Maybe in not so nice terms......:p
Hmmmm. If she's gone maybe I'll give BF another chance.

I'm active on two other forums bikeforums.net and bicyclegroup.com.
BF is a good place to go and "chat", find out information but the site is sooooo large, it's a nightmare. Posts easily get lost. A number of TE folks also post at BF.
BCG is a small, family-like forum. It's "bike centric" although threads sometimes gets off track. I think its an excellent place for a newbie or anyone to go. You would be treated with respect. Rudeness is not tolerated (much). I've met alot of the BCG folks at Interbike last year, a very nice group of people. Give BCG a looksee. Most likely questions will be politely and expertly answered.

Yeah, apparently, you weren't alone in feeling that way! The only time I ever had 'words' with her was when she started dissing TE. I just would NOT tolerate that!
;)
I just heard back from Lala, one of the moderators, and I think everyone I listed above should be able to see the women's forum. If I didn't get you, just send a PM to Lala or Stacey, and they'll give you access. Just look for them on the member list.

me too snap - I didn't stay long at bikeforums.com. I was given the info to request access to the womens only section and koffee emailed me and told me that section was for women only. That if I wanted to post, I needed to use the main page. When I wrote back and told her I was A)female and had B)been given the info by the head admin, she told me ok but if she found out I was a man, I would be banned from the forum completely.
Whatever
TE ROCKS!!! and here's where I choose to live - although BJ is a nice vacation spot! lol

I'm quite, quite happy here at TE thank you, so so, very much!
Way WAY too much testosterone in basically every other board I've been to. Everything is an all-out pissing contest, forget empathy or support, the answer to any problem is always train harder or buy more gear.
Nah....
I'll stick with TE!

See below for a link to a uk forum that seems to be mainly guys. It's quite 'blokey' but seems to have some good info and has a special bit for newbies. Some of it is quite funny as well...in a kind of guys being guys type way.
I recommend the 'cake shop' forum for an insight into the mind of the uk male. Basically, just the same as the US guys but with different cultural references and better jokes (IMHO).:p

Sorry, Red,
I just followed up on it, and they're working on it - apparently, things are hectic there. (That's why the seach functions are down too.)
It will be between Winter Cycling and General Cycling forums.

The other forum I'm fond of (besides TE, of course) is 'Bent Rider Online. Most of the guys on it are (ahem) mature enough that the testosterone levels remains down in the mildly toxic range - but I stay away from the racing threads.
There is recumbent specific information that you just can't get anywhere else.

The last time I was on BF some woman told her husband about something that was said on the women's forum. The guy posted it and whatever was said upset Koffee so much that she wanted to ban the woman from the woman's forum.
I couldn't find the post but thought the whole thing rather childish.

Bruno - I love reading Cake Stop. Sometimes I may not know what they're talking about, but sometimes they can be really funny.
I know a guy that made a game of trolling BF. He'd see how far he could go before he got banned. He especially loved "getting" Koffee.
