I was a very bad girl today: I went out testing bikes. I started with my lust bike, the Specialized Sequoia Elite. It felt pretty damn good! Smooth, responsive. I also tried a Jamis Nova and a Cannondale Cyclocross but it was really hard to compare them since both had somewhat nobby tires and neither had spd pedals.

I think the Pilot 2.1 is most comparable to the Elite, but it cost almost $300 more. The Pilot 1.2, about $300 less. Has anyone compared the Trek Pilot 1.2 to the Sequoia Elite?

My friend loves her Trek Pilot.

The Seqoia Elite is 10 speed Ultrega, the Trek Pilot 1.2 has a combination of lower end components. The Trek Pilot is also 10 speed Ultrega. For the better components, I'd spend the extra $300.

Just be sure the bike you chose fits you well.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go try the TREK, but I think my heart already belongs to the Elite.

BTW the Elite is a 9 speed with triple cranks.

So is the Pilot 2.1...I love mine. I've never tried the Sequoia, so I can't help you on the comparison.

I've had a sequoia pro for a about a year now... It's a very comfy bike and rides well. With the carbon seat stays, seat post and fork you don't get much vibration from the road and it's a pretty smooth ride. BUT - it's not a pure racer. I keep up with the guys on the racers, but it's still heavier and the geometry is different. Personally I'm going to get myself a nice Ruby S-Works and keep the Sequoia for commuting and some light touring.

I've broken my promises to DP and paid for the Specialized Sequoia Elite. When I test rode it on Saturday the LBS guy said that they may not be able to get another if this one sells since Specialized and stopped production of the 2006's. I'd already decided that this is the bike I want so I just called and paid for it :D

Now, I'm not sure when to pick it up. I'm signed up for a ride (http://www.baltobikeclub.org/index.pl/cwc) on Saturday September 9 and wouldn't have a chance to ride this more than once before then. Between this and my plan to swap pedals, seat, and accessories from the old bike to the new I figure I'm best off waiting until after the ride. :(

I can't wait to bring my Sweetums home! I'll post pictures!

Oh, come on, ride the new bike. The first time I rode my Specialized Sequoia Comp last year was on the Civil War Century (metric). What a nice ride, and excellent food at the pit stops! The bike was great on all those hills. How long can it take to swap out the seat, pedals, etc? A couple hours? Go for it!
