So I finally got my butt into a pool. My sense of pool length must be off because I thought the pool was 25m but as I did the laps I was like dang this pool seems long, I must be out of shape. Turns out it's a 50m pool :D
I did 22 laps in about 40 minutes. I'm sure I'll lose loss of my arms around 1pm today. I did mostly freestyle, with about 6 laps of side stroke. Rested a bit in between each set of 4 laps.
The swim portion of the aquabike I'm doing is 1.2 miles, so I'm about 1/2 way there. Anyone know what's a good time to shoot for for that distance?
Time for coffee...

Are counting a lap as up and back? Or just one way?

Beta girl.... GJ on getting in the pool. KEEP AT IT. It will get better.
As far as a good time? Well, you could check out the race results from the previous year to get a good idea of what the times were. Then, you can swim that distance in the pool and time yourself to see how you will do.
For my 1.2 mile swim, I did it in 40 minutes. But, I was also doing once a week swim workouts that totaled 2200 to 3000 yards each session. AND I was a competitive swimmer... 20 years ago!
Just do what you can... and feel good about being about to do it.

Yay for getting back in the pool! 40 minutes was the number that popped into my head as a target too.
I find that when I haven't been swimming in a while, the first two weeks are brutal, with maybe 1200-yd workout as the max I can endure. But then it just ratchets, the stroke drills have their effect, and bammo.
Good luck!

Thanks. I looked up last year's results for the female aquabike for the miami man. Cripes! Basically I need to do the 1.2 miles in under 40 mins :) The bike times seem doable for me though.
Only 3 people did it, and the fastest did the swim in 22 mins, biked in 2hr 52 mins. The slowest did the swim in 38 mins and bike in 3hr 26 mins. The swim was 1.2 miles and the bike was 56 miles.
I really need to get my swimming in gear. Got my wetsuit ready for the lake tomorrow.
