View Full Version : Some bad taper training karma ...

Early this morning in Chicago we had a strong line of thunderstorms roll through, putting the kibosh on my plans to ride my bike to work (8 mi), swim 1000 yds, work, then ride home. Seemed like a good taper workout plan.

Well, I thought, at least I have a backup: there are stationary bikes at the gym. Not ideal, but at least I'll know my distance and cadence, and can choose resistance. Plus, then I can swim first and deal with those post-swim rubbery legs.

I had forgotten until I got to the gym that my university is hosting a large craft show this weekend, and setup began this morning. Some parts of the building were closed off, including the elevated indoor track ... which is the only place in the building that has stationary bikes! I suggested to the manager that this wasn't exactly the best customer service and didn't show the best foresight, but they were completely indifferent to my plight.

Grrrrr.

So I swam 1200 yds instead. I hope bad training karma turns into good race karma! The weather forecast for Sunday is 40% rain, cloudy, temp in low 80s.

/end karma rant

That sucks that ALL of your tapering options... except for swimming... were squashed.

Oh well, you are trained... prepared.. and ready to go.

You are going to do great! Can't wait to read the race report!

Thanks, I appreciate it! I would like to improve on my times from Naperville in June, but the size of the Accenture event is daunting ... each wave will have 80-140 people in it! But everyone who has done it says it's great.

I'll do a light brick tomorrow and call it done.

Frustrating, but not harmful! You've done the work! You are ready! I am sorry I won't be here to cheer for you, but I'll be cheering from afar in (somewhere) Wisconsin, at my friend's cabin.

GO LYNNE K! GO BRINA!

And then I'll get to read race reports when I come home!

Lynn,

i noticed driving back from the nature museum that the craft fair was on campus this year instead of over at Ryan Field. Bummer that it interfered with your plans.

What do you do on campus? I spent a couple of years there getting my grad degree.

Brina,

Faculty, in Economics. And, apparently, a terror to the SPAC staff!

I'm glad that NU will be so well represented on Sunday!

My first nursing degree is from NU, an accelerated BSN program that was eliminated 2 years after I graduated. Got a degree from U of C, too, and one from UIC. Just spreading the love all over town!

It is so cool that you two get to be part of the biggest tri in the world. Good luck, you will burn up the course! (at your own pace, of course :D )

Looking forward to the race reports!

L.

Lise, thanks. I thought about you today passing Performance Bikes.

Lynn, I went to kellogg - do you teach there at all, or purely undergrad?

Just undergrad, although we share a building with Kellogg :) , and of course there are economists in multiple departments there.

Good luck Sunday! Do I recall correctly that you are doing the Olympic and not the sprint?

Lynn,

Good luck to you as well. I am doing the olympic distance. You are as well, correct?

I think in the future I am going to stick to sprint distance. The training for this distance takes too much time out of my week.

Have a great race.

Nope, I'm doing sprint; I may do an Oly next year, but there just aren't enough hours in the day to do all of the things I love!
