I been yelled at equally by men and wommen, however it was a man in a dump truck pulling equipment behind him that intentionally first slowed to a crawl pulling aside me to stare me down before then pulling the dump truck ahead of me bringing the trailer into my lane running me off the road.:eek: I had only 2 options getting off the lane or getting hit. I called 911 to no avail and reported him:mad:, but one thing that was especially scary about it was as he pulled ahead of me his truck backfired so I was terrified I was being shot at as well. I hadn't been riding long when that happened, and nearly turned around to go home and park the bike, but I knew if I did that I'd likely never get on the bike again.:(
Just last weekend I had some beotches in a car yelling at me to get off the road and threw something out their window, but I don't know what it was, possibly a cigarette, but luckily it didn't hit me.

95% of the time it has been men yelling at me, and 83% of those have been on trucks/suv's. Therefore, I deduct that 78.85% of all men on the road driving on SUV's will yell at me :eek:

I voted for yelled at by a woman driver, but it was a car load of female teenagers just recently. Although, I have been hollered at by guys as well.

I am EXTREMELY lucky. I've only been yelled at by crazy teenagers...and mostly just to see if I'd react/having fun. No one has ever yelled at me to 'get off the road' or anything like that. I did have one crazy hick/redneck throw an empty tin of chewing tobacco at me, but he missed! :p

95% of the time someone cuts too close to me, I assume it's because they don't know any better. I probably did the same thing before I started biking and learned how dangerous it is. :o I have the advantage that I live in a small city where biking is hugely popular (even though we have no bike lanes). My guess is that most everyone around here is either a biker, or friendly with one. :D

Don't you all want to move to Greensboro, now? :)

hmmmm - fortunately incidents with drivers are fairly far between around here. A few I can remember:
1. screamed at out of a car window by a teenage girl just to see if I would jump or not.

2. on a team ride last spring lectured by a woman about riding 2 abreast - which we are allowed by law to do in this state.

3. told by a man to "get a light" - when it wasn't even dark..... I think he was just trying to make excuses for almost hitting me because for some reason he did not see me or the bright chartruese stripe on the chest of my kit coming towards him . (residential street with parking on both sides - his side was free of parked cars, but he almost failed to move over)

4. told by a man in a car (wearing a Livestrong shirt none the less) that I needed to move out of his way - which would have meant that I was weaving in and out of parked cars - something that every cyclist knows that they should not do!

It's a bout equal here (and very unusual). Yesterday a walking stereotype - no, driving - of a "coed" didn't seem to see me and was making a left turn across my path, and I hollered "wake up, please!" and she (I think) said "What?" and I frowned ferociously and hollered Wake! Up! and I bleieve her response was "Shut up!" and she looked angry then... and I realized that oh, just perhaps, that was a pretty natural response to being yelled at like a small child and that if I had been able to utter what I've *wanted* my spontaneous outburst to be, "Be Careful!" she might not have gone into "defensive teenager" quite as quickly. Or maybe it wouldn't have made any difference.
Yea, the students are back... back to that world :-)

I think you need to add "All of the above". Though I have had some positive experiences with motorists.

i've been yelled at twice, well, at least that i know of. first was by a lady, who out in the middle of god's country, no traffic, no markings on the road, etc told me to "get the F*#% off the road" as my only choice to go was in the gravel as she passed me.. my second experience was riding thru a town, several drainage systems along the curb so i rode the white line so i wouldn't keep swerving in and out, a man pulled over right in front of me, parked haphazardly and i almost crashed trying to unclip in time as he is getting out of the his vehicle yelling at me that he is a biker and never has seen such rudeness as someone "riding in the middle of the road". i have had experiences where i've been almost hit, all by women drivers..the semi that was in my shoulder area of the road i am pretty sure looked like a man..so my poll, would be that i find women drivers less courteous..however yesterdays male dumptruck driver that followed me as i went (slowly) up this hill with several cars behind him was very courteous, he at least went around me when it went from solid lines to double lines. i've never had anything thrown at me, at least not yet..it's bad enough with bugs, can't imagine anything bigger than that..
