I was at the grocery store tonight. Went to the wine section to find a nice bottle to have a glass with dinner.
Normally I enjoy Clos du Bois Chardonnay... not expensive and enjoy the flavor.
But lo and behold... there it was... RED BICYCLETTE...
I had to have it... it was wine with a picture of a bicycle on the front. Sigh.
Yep, a nerd. Woe is me...

Your next wine assignment is to find this:

I've tried the cabernet and the syrah, liked 'em both. The Pinot Grigio got excellent reviews.

Hey, who you calling a nerd, sistuh?
For those who'd like to know, Red Bicyclette is available such fine establishments as Cost Plus World Market.

Heh!! I did the exact same thing a couple years ago! Saw the bottle and bought it, not caring a bit about drinking the wine inside. I bought two different kinds, in fact. Still have the bottles, but poured the wine out (at that time, I didn't care about trying wines). They're sitting on display on top of my tower wine rack.
So if you're a nerd, I'm a bigger dork. :p :p

*waving hand* Another bike nerd, here. I did the same thing not too long ago--bought the bottle of Red Bicyclette because of its cute label. Oh yeah, the wine wasn't too bad either--a little on the sweetish side maybe, but not bad. But that's not why I bought it, is it?:o
Now I have to go looking for that one Snapdragen showed us. *sigh* It's such a hard life--hunting down bicycle-labeled wines.;)

Please review the wine! I see it all the time. Ooh, it's from France. Wine Enthusiast rates the 2003 an 85. A light, fresh Chardonnay with minimal barrel influence (yay!!), the debut vintage boasts ample pear and citrus flavors, a stony minerality and hints of roasted nuts. At its commonly offered retail price of $10, this would be a Best Buy.

And just so the beer drinkers don't feel left out, we have Fat Tire to drink! ;)

I've seen the Red Bicyclette wine as well...but only in the Merlot and I'm not a merlot fan. I'll have to look for the Chardonnay.
If you haven't seen it...check out their website...it's adorable!

Dh and I bought this wine a while ago because of the label, which honestly is how we always buy our wine :)
We've also given it as part of a house warming or hosting gift to a few people.

I've noticed a lot of weird-wine-titles lately, like "three stuffed llamas" and things like that.
I've had Red Bicyclette three o fourimes - but I'm no reviewer. It's just wine to me :=)

mimi... the nerdy part is buying a wine JUST because there's a bicycle on the front. (But, it was also just kinda meant to be a joke...)
Snap... gonna have to find the Cycles Gladiator now! LOL... when I polish off the RedBicyclette I'll save the bottle as a bud vase... can put cut roses in it! :D These would be fun gifts too! I know my friends would laugh and roll their eyes :D
The wine was actually quite good! I had snapper, fresh veggies and a fresh steamed yam for dinner... the wine was perfect with it. I'll be buying it again... and not just for the label... LOL.

What a darling web site! I'll have to look for the wine next time I'm in a grocery store (hubby does most of the shopping as he's retired)...but I'm the wine drinker. :D

Hey, somewhere I saw a thing that you can stick in the top of an empty wine bottle that turns it into a candelabra. That'd be a great use for the empty Red Bicyclette bottles!

Nanci, the review you posted was for the Red Bicyclette, correct? Do you have one for the Cycles Gladiator? They have that at the grocery I go to. I have been tempted to buy it, but resisted for fear that I wouldn't like the wine. I guess I'm less of a dork (or just poorer :o ) than some, and don't want to spend $10 on a bottle because it has the Cycles Gladiator picture on it :p.

I must say my nearly 3 yo grandson liked the red bicyclette website. He kept wanting me to go back "outside grandma" to watch the animation, and he really liked watching the dog chase the bike LOL.:D

OK, count me in as a SUPER Dork...
I had to stop at the grocery store on the way home yesterday, so I checked and found both wines! I bought the Red Bicyclette in the Chardonnay and the Cycles Gladiator in the Cabernet Savignon. :o
The good news is that the Red Bicyclette Chardonnay is quite good. On the dry side...but still a bit fruity, with a strong flavor. I had it with chicken and bean chili and crusty bread and it held up well!
The bad news is that now my husband thinks I'm crazy! :p

I competed in the 24 Hours of Adrenaline race this past weekend and stayed at a friend's house afterwards.
She bought me a bottle of that wine to celebrate the race, specifically because of its name.
Sadly, I was so tired I could barely drink any but what few sips I did have, it was quite enjoyable.

Ok in my world that's just plain sacrilegious!!!!!!!!! I LOVE wine and the redder and dryer the better. Trying to get healthy and fit in the biking world I don't drink near as much as I used to (1 bottle every 2-3 weeks now versus 4-5 bottles a week then) but now I have a reason to buy wine again!!!!
Thank you all for heads up! Now if I can just make my hubby a believer!

To all the wine lovers on the forum, I apologize profusely for the waste of perfectly good vino. I suppose to my credit, I DID try it before I poured it down the drain.....and didn't like it. No one else in the house drinks wine, so down the drain it went.

Not MY bike as I don't drink wine (or much of anything alcoholic period) this was the scene coming from a winery getting ready to head back to campground on a recent ride. http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l151/mary9761b/14%20-%2016%20July%20Bike%20Journal%20ReUnion%202006/DSCN8024WinebottleholderinGenoa.jpg

Which Cycles Gladiator specifically? It is porduced by Hahn Estates. Just glancing through my reviews, I see Bordeaux Blend 88, Cab Sauvignon 83, Chardonnay 86, Merlot 88, Syrah 88, Meritage 86, Cab Blend 85.

cycles gladiator, I've had the Cabernet and the Syrah. Liked 'em both.
Hahn also puts out the Rex Goliath label of wines, another good one for not a lot of $$.
