Guys are funny!

I went for a ride yesterday and felt great! It wasn’t a very long ride, only 25 miles, but I kept an average of 18.5 mph!
It is so funny to see guys’ faces when a girl passes them. I passed a few although I did not think that I was going all that fast. There was a slight uphill, nothing major and I was going about 16. Passed one guy, which he simply could not handle. He had to catch me and openly said that he could not let a girl pass him even if it is only for half a mile. Well, he turned around while I went for a tougher hill. I obviously did not care to tell him that I am pregnant. He would have had a heart attack. On the way back I caught up with a team of riders. They are a strong team and I see these guys there often. So, one of them is screaming: “Check her out. Common, little girl, catch up”. Well, you bet I caught up and stayed with them the whole way at 23 mph. I slowed down almost at the very end of the rout when my heart rate started racing. At the stop they had all those goofy smiles on their faces and I thought to myself: “If I wasn’t 9 weeks pregnant I would have pulled all of you”. Well, I am just talking too much now. But I simply had a good day. It does not happen every day. And I also concluded that men’s egos cloud their mind way too often.

I look forward to one day, maybe, possibly, ok fine - not likely - but passing a guy or twenty, especially up a hill. That would be fun and I would absolutely embellish the hell out of it - like I imagine I would want to pass a guy, get to the top of the hill, ride back down just behind him, then pass him again. Now where was that bottle of superpowers I was promised? :)

It is very possible. Of course, there a whole bunch of good riders that I cannot even stay with. Bus usually these are very polite and understanding. They ride for many years and compete. Most of them are ven helpful. But others, well, I already said it...

It's always nice when a girl can get them to eat some dust from her tires! :D

I know when I am on the bike path, I hate to play back and forth with someone... and I know everytime I pass a guy he WILL catch back up and pass me... it's really annoying. It's like passing the guy on the freeway doing 50 mph, who decides after you pass that he needs to do 70 mph.

Well, great job on making those boys eat some dust!

Yeah, I have friend who hates being passed by anyone. Major type A personality. He knows it, and makes it a game. Those he chases usually play along and give him a good run.

Oh, I can so see that happening and it is so true. This weekend at the tri I passed a guy on the bike and then had to slow down going around a corner because there was a kid and someone else in front of me with cones on the left. Well, this guy had to try to pass me on the right and go between these two just to get in front of me. Didn't last long, though. As soon as I had an open path I went right by him for good. :D Funny how (almost) all guys are the same

There are lots of rollers around here, and what I've encountered is the leap frog effect. I'll on-your-left a guy (or two or three) on a flat or an upgrade. Well, they can't stand being chicked, so on the next little downgrade they shift up to some tall gear, mash it and fly past me. Once the grade goes back up they're all out of steam and I hear them madly changing gears as I glide by at the same steady cadence that I was turning down the hill. Grade goes up, I go by and so on, repeat. I think it's an extra fly in their chamois butter that I'm passing them on the UPhill ;) .

Awesome ride! Good for you.
I personally love it when I can put the hurt on the guys.
DH and I...when riding together...if we spot someone on the road ahead, make an effort to chase them down. Some days it's easier than others. And sometimes, when we succeed in catching and passing, they'll jump on our wheel and don't let us drop them. Then, the battle really begins!
It's fun and makes the ride interesting. Miles fly by in those cases.
There are 2 guys on the Sunday a.m. shop ride who love to rib me about how I tease them on this long flat section, as we'll cruise as a group to the base of this hill, then I leave them in the dust when the road turns upward!

Personally, I don't think it's really fair to generalize that guys have problems with women passing them. The guys I know on bikes are real happy to ride together with females and show their admiration and easy camaraderie (my DH included). And as we know, neither gender can corner the market on big egos and inferiority complexes.

But yes, when any person (male or female) acts superior on their bike, no harm in giving them something to think about. :cool:

Oh there are plenty. I ride in Awhatukee (spelling??) and there are a lot of streets that go uphill. It is called the "Foothills" area or something like that. Some of them are erally easy, and some of them are nasty.

Usually I do not have problems with men or women who are polite and greet you. But it is usually guys whose faces turn green if I pass them. Others who are cool with that just smile or even try to stay. Rarely I have issues with women. Some time ago I passed a couple, I guess a husband and a wife. I did not notice that he was trying to catch me but at the same time was hoping that his wife would be able to stick around. There is a usual stop where all riders go. He caught me there when I was racking my bike, gave me a few compliments about being fast. And then his wife showed up very upset. She barked something at him and gave me a nasty look as if did something wrong. I just thought to myself that some people are just lacking self confidence. And I am sure that her husband would be proud of her if she supported him or put an effort. Oh well.

i thought of awhatukee after i asked that question. i do remember a bunch of hills in the "foothills".

the only reason i miss phx now is for the cycling. wish i had gotten into it while i lived there. :(

Yes, it is really nice to ride here. It is hot now but if you start early enough everything works out. Well, if you are ever back in Phoenix, get in touch with me. We can go riding together and "smoke" some guys there on the way.

While I agree with Lise that we shouldn't generalise re guys and them being passed by girls... I do love this phrase and can think of some guys I know that could use this one hurled over the shoulder back at them :cool:
