okee dokee....

i've got a super short stem on my juliana. suuuuuuper short. i think its like 40 or 50 mms. obviously, this is good for tight turns and such, but sometimes it's a tad too responsive...which usually ends with me on the ground. :)

so what stem lengths are y'all runnin'? i'm thinking of bumping up to at least a 70 or possibly a 90?

and, while we're at it, any recs on brand/model?

i know, not the sexiest topic out there, but help is appreciated!

I have a 9cm stem on my mountain bike, but your stem length will depend on your frame geometry/top tube length and how you are set up on your bike.

If you like the stem - try lightening the load on your hands while you're riding. I just got a WSD and they had to cut the stem tube down to fit me and yup = she's Really Responsive now! Squirrly as a matter of fact (all her of course....Never the rider!) I've noticed that when I "unweight" my hands she settles down....I think of it as easing off on the reins!

i am not sure what my current one is....but i am getting a new bike on saturday!! a 2007 specialized hardrock sport. but the stem is a tad too long for me on the medium size bike. so we are getting another stem put on with a slight rise. maybe you should consider that. it shortens it without making it super responsive. you might also check with your bike shop and have them measure you. that way you get it right on. that is what we did and why we are doing the stem with a rise.
